Therefore,

prepare your minds for action,

keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

so then let us not sleep as

others do, but let us be alert and

sober.

instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,

You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with

someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.

Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.

Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”

“Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.

And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?

“Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap;

and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,

With all prayer and petition

pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view,

be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;

But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

(“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”)
