David Brings The Ark Of Yahweh To Jerusalem

1 (A)Now David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

1 Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

1 David again assembled all the choice men in Israel,(A) 30,000.

1 After this, David gathered together again 30,000 men from all of the choicest men of Israel.

1 Again David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him to (a)(B)Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God which is called by the (C)Name, the very name of the Lord of hosts who (D)is (b)enthroned above the cherubim.

2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.

2 He and all his troops set out(B) to bring the ark of God from Baale-judah.(a) The ark is called by the Name, the name of Yahweh of Hosts who dwells between the cherubim.(C)

2 Then David and all the people with him set out from Baal-judah to bring up from there the Ark of God, who is called the Name, the name of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, and who is enthroned on the cherubim.

2 And David arose and went with all those who were with him to Baale-judah [Kiriath-jearim], to bring up from there [to Jerusalem] the ark of God which is called by the Name—the very Name of the Lord of hosts, who dwells enthroned above the cherubim.

3 They (c)placed the ark of God on (E)a new cart that they might bring it from the house of Abinadab which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were leading the new cart.

3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.

3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and transported it from Abinadab’s house, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio,(b) sons of Abinadab, were guiding the cart(D)

3 They mounted the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from Abinadab's home in Gibeah, with Abinadab's sons Uzzah and Ahio driving the new cart.

3 They placed the ark of God on (a)a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were leading the new cart.

4 So (F)they brought it with the ark of God from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Ahio was walking ahead of the ark.

4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.

4 and brought it with the ark of God from Abinadab’s house on the hill. Ahio walked in front of the ark.

4 As they left Abinadab's house in Gibeah accompanied by the Ark of God, Ahio was walking ahead of the ark.

4 So they brought it with the ark of God from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Ahio was walking in front of the ark.(A)

Uzzah And The Ark

5 Meanwhile, David and all the house of Israel (G)were celebrating before the Lord (H)with all kinds of instruments made of (d)fir wood, and with lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets and cymbals.

5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

5 David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord with all kinds of fir wood instruments,(c) lyres, harps, tambourines, sistrums,(d) and cymbals.(E)

5 David and the entire assembly of Israel were dancing in the presence of the LORD with all of their strength, accompanied by all sorts of wood instruments, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.

5 Meanwhile, David and all the house of Israel were celebrating and dancing before the Lord with all kinds of instruments made of fir or cypress wood, with lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.

6 But when they came to the (I)threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah (J)reached out toward the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen nearly upset it.

6 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.

6 When they came to Nacon’s threshing floor, Uzzah reached out to the ark of God and took hold of it because the oxen had stumbled.

6 When they arrived at Nacon's threshing floor, Uzzah reached out and grabbed the Ark of God because the oxen had stumbled.

6 When they came to Nacon’s threshing floor, Uzzah reached out [with his hand] to the ark of God and took hold of it, because the oxen [stumbled and] nearly overturned it.

7 And the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and (K)God struck him down there for (e)his irreverence; and he died there by the ark of God.

7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

7 Then the Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah,(F) and God struck him dead on the spot for his irreverence,(G) and he died there next to the ark of God.

7 Just then, the anger of the LORD blazed against Uzzah, and God struck him down right there because of his failure, and he died there beside the Ark of God.

7 And (b)the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his irreverence; and he died there by the ark of God.

8 David became angry because (f)of the Lord’s outburst against Uzzah, and that place is called (g)Perez-uzzah to this day.

8 And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.

8 David was angry because of the Lord’s outburst against Uzzah, so he named that place an Outburst Against Uzzah,(e) as it is today.

8 David flew into a rage because the LORD had killed Uzzah. That's why that place is called Perez-uzzah to this day.

8 David became (c)angry and grieved and offended because of the Lord’s outburst against Uzzah, and that place has been called Perez-uzzah (outburst against Uzzah) to this day.

9 So (L)David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?”

9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?

9 David feared the Lord that day and said, “How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?”

9 But David feared the LORD that day, and asked, "How can the Ark of God come to me?"

9 So David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?”

10 And David was unwilling to move the ark of the Lord into the city of David with him; but David took it aside to the house of (M)Obed-edom the Gittite.

10 So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.

10 So he was not willing to move the ark of the Lord to the city of David;(H) instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

10 As a result, David was unwilling to take the ark of the LORD into his care in the City of David. Instead, David left it at the home of Obed-edom the Gittite.

10 David was unwilling to move the ark of the Lord into the City of David with him; instead he took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

11 Thus the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord (N)blessed Obed-edom and all his household.

11 And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.

11 The ark of the Lord remained in his house three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom(I) and his whole family.

11 So the ark of the LORD remained for three months in the household of Obed-edom the Gittite while the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his entire household.

11 So the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household (family).

12 Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of God.” (O)David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into (P)the city of David with gladness.

12 And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

12 It was reported to King David: “The Lord has blessed Obed-edom’s family and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God.” So David went and had the ark of God brought up from Obed-edom’s house to the city of David with rejoicing.(J)

12 Later on, David was informed, "The LORD has blessed the home of Obed-edom and everything he has since he's in possession of the Ark of God." So David went out joyfully and brought up the Ark of God to the City of David from Obed-edom's home.

12 Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the City of David with rejoicing and gladness.

13 And so it was, that when the (Q)bearers of the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed an (R)ox and a fatling.

13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.

13 When those carrying the ark of the Lord advanced six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.(K)

13 After those who were carrying the ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed oxen and fattened animals,

13 And when those who were carrying the ark of the Lord [by its poles] had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.

14 And (S)David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, and David was (h)(T)wearing a linen ephod.

14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

14 David was dancing(f) with all his might before the Lord wearing a linen ephod.(L)

14 dancing in front of the LORD with all of his strength and wearing a linen ephod.

14 And David was dancing before the Lord with (d)great enthusiasm, and David was (e)wearing a linen ephod [a priest’s upper garment].

15 So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouting and the sound of the trumpet.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

15 He and the whole house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of the ram’s horn.

15 So David and the entire assembly of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and trumpet blasts.

15 So David and all the house of Israel were bringing the ark of the Lord up [to the City of David] with shouts [of joy] and with the sound of the trumpet.

David And Michal

16 Then it happened as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David that (U)Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

16 As the ark of the Lord was entering the city of David,(M) Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.

16 As the ark of the LORD was coming into the City of David, Saul's daughter Michal was peering out a window, watching King David jumping and dancing in the LORD's presence, and she despised him in her heart.

16 Then, as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, (f)Michal, Saul’s daughter [David’s wife], looked down from the window above and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she felt contempt for him in her heart [because she thought him undignified].

17 So they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it (V)in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and (W)David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

17 They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent David had set up for it.(N) Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings in the Lord’s presence.

17 They brought in the ark of the LORD, set it in place inside the tent that David had erected for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings in the presence of the LORD.

17 They brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offering, (X)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.

18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.

18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Hosts.

18 After David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies

18 When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts (armies),

19 Further, he distributed to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, both to men and women, a cake of bread and one of dates and one of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed each to his house.

19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

19 Then he distributed a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake to each one in the entire Israelite community, both men and women.(O) Then all the people left, each to his own home.

19 and distributed to all the people the entire multitude of Israel, including both men and women a cake made of bread, one made of dates, and one made of raisins to each one. Then all the people left, each headed for home.

19 and distributed to all the people, the entire multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to each a [ring-shaped] loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people departed, each to his house.

20 But when David returned to bless his household, Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel distinguished himself today! (Y)He uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids as one of the (Z)foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!”

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

20 When David returned home to bless his household,(P) Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel honored himself today!” she said. “He exposed himself today in the sight of the slave girls of his subjects like a vulgar person would expose himself.”

20 When David returned to bless his household, Saul's daughter Michal came out to meet him and called out, "How the king of Israel honored himself today by undressing himself right in front of his women staff members, just like any pervert would dare to expose himself!"

20 Then David returned to bless his household. But [his wife] Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How glorious and distinguished was the king of Israel today, (g)who uncovered himself and stripped [off his kingly robes] in the eyes of his servants’ maids like one of the riffraff who shamelessly uncovers himself!”

21 So David said to Michal, “(AA)It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel; therefore I will celebrate before the Lord.

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.

21 David replied to Michal, “I was dancing(g) before the Lord who chose me over your father and his whole family to appoint me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel.(Q) I will celebrate before the Lord,

21 But David replied to Michal, "It was in front of the LORD, who appointed me to replace your father and his entire household by selecting me as Commander-in-Chief over Israel, the people of the LORD, that I danced in front of the LORD.

21 So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord [that I did this], who chose me above your father and all his house, to appoint me as ruler over Israel, the people of the Lord. Therefore I will celebrate [in pure enjoyment] before the Lord.

22 I will be more lightly esteemed than this and will be humble in my own eyes, but with the maids of whom you have spoken, with them I will be distinguished.”

22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

22 and I will humble myself even more and humiliate myself.(h)(i) I will be honored by the slave girls you spoke about.”

22 I'm going to act more shamelessly than this, even to humbling myself in my own eyes. Now as to the women staff members about whom you have spoken, they are to hold me in honor!"

22 Yet I will demean myself even more than this, and will be humbled (abased) in my own sight [and yours, as I please], but by the maids whom you mentioned, by them I shall be held in honor.”

23 Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

23 And Saul’s daughter Michal had no child to the day of her death.

23 And Saul's daughter Michal bore no children from that day on until the day she died.

23 Michal the daughter of Saul had no (h)child to the day of her death.
