Hosea 14

Return To Yahweh

1 Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God, For you have stumbled because of your iniquity.

1 O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.

1 "Return, Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have fallen due to your own iniquity.

1 O Israel, return to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled and fallen, [visited by calamity] due to your iniquity.

2 Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to Him, "Take away all iniquity And receive us graciously, That we may present the fruit of our lips.

2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

2 Bring a prepared speech with you as you return to the LORD. Say to him: "Take away all our iniquity, and accept what is good. Then we will present the fruit of our lips.

2 Take with you words and return to the Lord. Say to Him, Take away all our iniquity; accept what is good and receive us graciously; so will we render [our thanks] as bullocks [to be sacrificed] and pay the confession of our lips.

3 "Assyria will not save us, We will not ride on horses; Nor will we say again, 'Our god,' To the work of our hands; For in You the orphan finds mercy."

3 Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

3 Assyria won't save us; we won't be riding on horses, Nor will we be saying anymore to the work of our hands, "You are our God." Indeed, in you the orphan finds mercy.'

3 Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses, neither will we say any more to the work of our hands [idols], You are our gods. For in You [O Lord] the fatherless find love, pity, and mercy.

A Promise Of Restoration

5 I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

5 I will be like the dew to Israel; Israel will blossom like a lily, growing roots like the cedars of Lebanon.

5 I will be like the dew and the night mist to Israel; he shall grow and blossom like the lily and cast forth his roots like [the sturdy evergreens of] Lebanon.

6 His shoots will sprout, And his beauty will be like the olive tree And his fragrance like the cedars of Lebanon.

6 His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon.

6 Israel's branches will spread out, and its beauty will be like an olive tree, with its scent like that of Lebanon.

8 O Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you I am like a luxuriant cypress; From Me comes your fruit.

8 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

8 "Ephraim, what have I in common with idols? I have listened and will pay attention to him. I am like a flourishing cypress; in me will your fruit be found."

8 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have answered [him] and will regard and watch over him; I am like a green fir or cypress tree; with Me is the fruit found [which is to nourish you].

9 Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them For the ways of the LORD are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But transgressors will stumble in them.

9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

9 Whoever is wise, let him understand these things. Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right: the righteous follow his example, but the rebellious stumble in them.

9 Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of the Lord are right and the [uncompromisingly] just shall walk in them, but transgressors shall stumble and fall in them.
