Clean And Unclean Animals

1 The Lord spoke again to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them,

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them,

1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron:

1 The LORD told Moses and Aaron,

1 The Lord spoke again to Moses and Aaron, saying to them,

2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘(A)These are the creatures which you may eat from all the animals that are on the earth.

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.

2 “Tell the Israelites: You may eat(A) all these kinds of land animals.(B)

2 "Tell the Israelis that these are the living creatures that you may eat among the animals of the earth:

2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Among all the animals which are on the earth, these are the animals which you may eat.(A)

3 Whatever divides a hoof, thus making split hoofs, and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat.

3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

3 You may eat any animal with divided hooves and that chews the cud.

3 You may eat any animal that has divided hooves with cloven feet and that ruminates its cud,

3 You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof [that is, a hoof split into two parts especially at its distal extremity] and chews the cud.

4 Nevertheless, (B)you are not to eat of these, among those which chew the cud, or among those which divide the hoof: the camel, for though it chews cud, it does not divide the hoof, it is unclean to you.

4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

4 But among the ones that chew the cud or have divided hooves you are not to eat these:the camel,(C) though it chews the cud,does not have divided hooves—it is unclean for you;

4 except you are not to eat the following animals that have divided hooves or ruminate their cud: the camel (because it chews the cud but doesn't have divided hooves, it is to be unclean for you),

4 Nevertheless, you are not to eat these, among those which chew the cud or divide the hoof: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is [ceremonially] unclean to you.

5 Likewise, the (a)shaphan, for though it chews cud, it does not divide the hoof, it is unclean to you;

5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

5 the hyrax,(a)(D) though it chews the cud,does not have hooves—it is unclean for you;

5 the rock badger (because it chews its cud but its hooves aren't divided, it is to be unclean for you),

5 And the (a)shaphan, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.

6 the (b)rabbit also, for though it chews cud, it does not divide the hoof, it is unclean to you;

6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

6 the hare, though it chews the cud,does not have hooves—it is unclean for you;

6 the hare (because it chews its cud, but its hooves aren't divided, it is to be unclean for you),

6 And the hare, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.

7 and the pig, for though it divides the hoof, thus making a split hoof, it does not chew cud, it is unclean to you.

7 And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

7 the pig, though it has divided hooves,does not chew the cud—it is unclean for you.

7 and the pig (because it has divided hooves and is therefore cloven-footed, but it doesn't ruminate its cud, it is to be unclean for you).

7 And the swine, because it divides the hoof and makes a split hoof, but does not chew the cud; it is unclean to you.

8 You shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

8 Do not eat any of their meat or touch their carcasses—they are unclean for you.(E)

8 You are not to eat their flesh or even touch their carcasses. They are to be unclean for you."

8 You shall not eat their meat nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

9 “This is what you may eat from all that is in the water: You may eat everything in the water that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or streams.

9 "You may eat anything that lives in the water that is, you may eat anything that has fins and scales either from the seas or from the rivers.

36 A spring or cistern containing water will remain clean, but someone who touches a carcass in it will become unclean.

36 "A spring or a cistern that holds water is clean, but whoever touches the carcass of an unclean animal will be unclean.

36 Nevertheless a spring or a cistern (reservoir) collecting water shall be clean; but whoever touches one of these carcasses shall be unclean.

43 You are not to make yourselves detestable on account of any swarming creature that swarms the land, and you are not to defile yourselves and become unclean due to them,

43 Do not make yourselves loathsome (impure, repulsive) by [eating] any swarming thing; you shall not make yourselves unclean by them so as to defile yourselves.

44 For (L)I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and (M)be holy, for I am holy. And you shall not make yourselves unclean with any of the swarming things that swarm on the earth.

44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

44 For I am Yahweh your God,(T) so you must consecrate yourselves(U) and be holy because I am holy.(V) You must not defile yourselves by any swarming creature that crawls on the ground.

44 because I, the LORD, am your God. Set yourselves apart and be holy, because I am holy. You are not to defile yourselves with any of the swarming creatures that swarm the earth.

46 This is the law regarding the animal and the bird, and every living thing that moves in the waters and everything that swarms on the earth,

46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth:

46 “This is the law concerning animals, birds, all living creatures that move in the water, and all creatures that swarm on the ground,

46 This is the law concerning animals, every living creature that moves on the waters or swarms on land.

46 This is the law regarding the animal and the bird and every living thing that moves in the waters and everything that swarms on the earth,

47 (P)to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the edible creature and the creature which is not to be eaten.

47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

47 in order to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between the animals(Y) that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.”

47 You are to differentiate between the clean and unclean, between the living creature that can be eaten and the living creature that is not to be eaten."

47 to make a distinction between the [ceremonially] unclean and the [ceremonially] clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten.
