Mark 10:2

On Divorce

¹ Then Jesus left that place and went into the territory of Judea on the other side of the Jordan. Crowds gathered around him as usual, and he began to teach them again as was his custom. ² Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" ³ "What did Moses command you?" he responded.

They said this to test him, so that they might have a charge against him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.

The Pharisees arrived and began arguing with Jesus. They tested him by demanding from him a sign from heaven.

The Pharisees and their scribes started complaining to Jesus' disciples, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"

The scribes and the Pharisees were watching Jesus closely to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, in order to find a way of accusing him of doing something wrong.

But the Pharisees and the experts in the Law rejected God's plan for themselves by refusing to be baptized by John.
