Psalm 108

A Plea For Victory

1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.

1 {A Song or Psalm of David.} O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

1 My heart is confident, God; I will sing; I will sing praises with the whole of my being.

1 My heart is firm, God; I will sing and praise you with my whole being.

1 O God, my heart is fixed (steadfast, in the confidence of faith); I will sing, yes, I will sing praises, even with my glory [all the faculties and powers of one created in Your image]!

2 Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn!

2 Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

2 Wake up, harp and lyre! I will wake up the dawn.

2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will wake up at dawn.

2 Awake, harp and lyre; I myself will wake very early -- "I will waken the dawn!

3 I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the peoples, And I will sing praises to You among the nations.

3 I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

3 I will praise You, Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations.

3 I will give thanks to you among the nations, LORD! I will sing praise to you among the nations.

3 I will praise and give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; and I will sing praises unto You among the nations.

4 For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens, And Your truth reaches to the skies.

4 For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.

4 For Your faithful love is higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches the clouds.

4 For your gracious love extends to the sky, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

4 For Your mercy and loving-kindness are great and high as the heavens! Your truth and faithfulness reach to the skies!

5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth.

5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;

5 God, be exalted above the heavens; let Your glory be over the whole earth.

5 May you be exalted above the heavens, God, and your glory be over all the earth.

5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let Your glory be over all the earth.

6 That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and answer me!

6 That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.

6 Save with Your right hand and answer me so that those You love may be rescued.

6 In order that those you love may be rescued, deliver with your power and answer me!

6 That Your beloved [followers] may be delivered, save with Your right hand and answer us! [or me]!

7 God has spoken in His holiness: "I will exult, I will portion out Shechem And measure out the valley of Succoth.

7 God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

7 God has spoken in His sanctuary: "I will triumph! I will divide up Shechem. I will apportion the Valley of Succoth.

7 God had promised in his sanctuary: "I will triumph and divide Shechem, then I will measure the valley of Succoth!

7 God has promised in His holiness [regarding the establishment of David's dynasty]: I will rejoice, I will distribute [Canaan among My people], dividing Shechem and [the western region and allotting the eastern region which contains] the Valley of Succoth.

8 "Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet of My head; Judah is My scepter.

8 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;

8 Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine, and Ephraim is My helmet; Judah is My scepter.

8 Gilead and Manasseh belong to me, while Ephraim is my chief stronghold and Judah is my scepter.

8 Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is My stronghold and the defense of My head; Judah is My scepter and lawgiver.

9 "Moab is My washbowl; Over Edom I shall throw My shoe; Over Philistia I will shout aloud."

9 Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.

9 Moab is My washbasin; on Edom I throw My sandal. Over Philistia I shout in triumph."

9 Moab is my washbasin; I will fling my shoe on Edom and shout over Philistia."

9 Moab is My washbasin; upon Edom [My slave] My shoe I cast [to be cleaned]; over Philistia I shout [in triumph].

10 Who will bring me into the besieged city? Who will lead me to Edom?

10 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?

10 Who will lead me to the fortified city? Who will lead me as far as Edom?

10 Who will bring me [David] into the strong, fortified city [of Petra]? Who will lead me into Edom?

11 Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected us? And will You not go forth with our armies, O God?

11 Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?

11 Have You not rejected us, God? God, You do not march out with our armies.

11 God, you have rejected us, have you not, since you did not march out with our army, God?

11 Have You not cast us off, O God? And will You not go forth, O God, with our armies?

12 Oh give us help against the adversary, For deliverance by man is in vain.

12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

12 Give us aid against the foe, for human help is worthless.

12 Give us help against the enemy, because human help is useless.

12 Give us help against the adversary, for vain is the help of man.

13 Through God we will do valiantly, And it is He who shall tread down our adversaries.

13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

13 With God we will perform valiantly; He will trample our foes.

13 I will find strength in God, for he will trample on our foes. To the Director. A Davidic psalm.

13 Through and with God we shall do valiantly, for He it is Who shall tread down our adversaries.
