Prayer For Rescue

1 Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men

1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;

1 Deliver me, LORD, from evil people, preserve me from violent men,

1 Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men;

2 Who devise evil things in their hearts; They continually stir up wars.

2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

3 They sharpen their tongues as a serpent; Poison of a viper is under their lips. Selah.

4 Protect me, LORD, from the control of evil people, from violent men who have planned to trip me.

5 The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set snares for me. Selah.

6 I said to the LORD, "You are my God; Give ear, O LORD, to the voice of my supplications.

6 So I say to the LORD, "You are my God; listen to my voice as I plead for mercy, LORD.

7 "O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle.

7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

7 LORD, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have protected my head in the time of battle.

7 O God the Lord, the Strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle.

8 "Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not promote his evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah.

8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.

8 Never grant, LORD, the desires of the wicked; never condone their plans so they cannot exalt themselves. Interlude

9 "As for the head of those who surround me, May the mischief of their lips cover them.

9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

9 May those who surround me discover that the trouble they talk about falls on their own head!

9 Those who are fencing me in raise their heads; may the mischief of their own lips and the very things they desire for me come upon them.

10 "May burning coals fall upon them; May they be cast into the fire, Into deep pits from which they cannot rise.

10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

10 May burning coals fall on them; may they be cast into fire, and into miry pits, never to rise again.

10 Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire, into floods of water or deep water pits, from which they shall not rise.

11 "May a slanderer not be established in the earth; May evil hunt the violent man speedily."

11 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

11 Let not the slanderer become established in the land. May evil quickly hunt down the violent man.

11 Let not a man of slanderous tongue be established in the earth; let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him [let calamity follow his evildoings].

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted And justice for the poor.

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

12 I know that the LORD will act on behalf of the tormented, providing justice for the needy.

12 I know and rest in confidence upon it that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will secure justice for the poor and needy [of His believing children].

13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; The upright will dwell in Your presence.

13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name, while the upright live in your presence. A Davidic Song

13 Surely the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence (before Your very face).
