Psalm 143

A Cry For Help

1 Hear my prayer, O LORD, Give ear to my supplications! Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!

1 {A Psalm of David.} Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

1 LORD, hear my prayer; pay attention to my request, because you are faithful; answer me in your righteousness.

1 Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me, and in Your righteousness.

2 And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For in Your sight no man living is righteous.

2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

2 Do not enter into judgment with your servant, for no living person is righteous in your sight.

2 And enter not into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight no man living is [in himself] righteous or justified.

3 For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead.

3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

3 For those who oppose me are pursuing my life, crushing me to the ground, making me sit in darkness like those who died long ago.

3 For the enemy has pursued and persecuted my soul, he has crushed my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in dark places as those who have been long dead.

4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart is appalled within me.

4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.

4 As a result, my spirit is desolate within me, and my mind within me is appalled.

4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed and faints within me [wrapped in gloom]; my heart within my bosom grows numb.

5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your doings; I muse on the work of Your hands.

5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.

5 I remember the former times, meditating on everything you have done. I think about the work of your hands.

5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your doings; I ponder the work of Your hands.

6 I stretch out my hands to You; My soul longs for You, as a parched land. Selah.

6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.

6 I stretch out my hands toward you, longing for you like a parched land. Interlude

6 I spread forth my hands to You; my soul thirsts after You like a thirsty land [for water]. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

7 Answer me quickly, O LORD, my spirit fails; Do not hide Your face from me, Or I will become like those who go down to the pit.

7 Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

7 Answer me quickly, LORD; my spirit is failing. Do not hide your face from me; otherwise, I will become like those who descend to the Pit,

7 Answer me speedily, O Lord, for my spirit fails; hide not Your face from me, lest I become like those who go down into the pit (the grave).

8 Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul.

8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

8 In the morning let me hear of your gracious love, for in you I trust. Cause me to know the way I should take, because I have set my hope on you.

8 Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, for on You do I lean and in You do I trust. Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my inner self to You.

9 Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I take refuge in You.

9 Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.

9 Deliver me from my enemies, LORD. I have taken refuge in you.

9 Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; I flee to You to hide me.

10 Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

10 Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; let Your good Spirit lead me into a level country and into the land of uprightness.

11 For the sake of Your name, O LORD, revive me In Your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.

11 Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.

11 For the sake of your name, LORD, preserve my life. Because you are righteous, bring me out of trouble.

11 Save my life, O Lord, for Your name's sake; in Your righteousness, bring my life out of trouble and free me from distress.

12 And in Your lovingkindness, cut off my enemies And destroy all those who afflict my soul, For I am Your servant.

12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

12 Because of your gracious love, you will cut off my enemies. You will destroy all who oppose me, for I am your servant. Davidic

12 And in your mercy and loving-kindness, cut off my enemies and destroy all those who afflict my inner self, for I am Your servant.
