Psalm 61

Security In God

1 Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer.

1 {To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.} Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

1 God, hear my cry; pay attention to my prayer.

1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.

2 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

2 From the end of the earth I will cry to you whenever my heart is overwhelmed. Place me on the rock that's too high for me.

2 From the end of the earth will I cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I [yes, a rock that is too high for me].

3 For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength against the enemy.

3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

3 For you have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength before the enemy.

3 For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary.

4 Let me dwell in Your tent forever; Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.

4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

4 Let me make my home in your tent forever; let me hide under the shelter of your wings. Interlude

4 I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; let me find refuge and trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

5 For You have heard my vows, O God; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name.

5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.

5 For you, God, have heard my promises; you have assigned to me the heritage of those who fear your name.

5 For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear, revere, and honor Your name.

6 You will prolong the king's life; His years will be as many generations.

6 Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.

6 Add day after day to the king's life; may his years continue for many generations.

6 May You prolong the [true] King's life [adding days upon days], and may His years be to the last generation [of this world and the generations of the world to come].

7 He will abide before God forever; Appoint lovingkindness and truth that they may preserve him.

7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.

7 May he be enthroned before God forever; Appoint your gracious love and truth to guard him.

7 May He sit enthroned forever before [the face of] God; O ordain that loving-kindness and faithfulness may watch over Him!

8 So I will sing praise to Your name forever, That I may pay my vows day by day.

8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

8 So I will sing songs to your name forever; I will fulfill my promises day by day. To the Director: According to Jeduthun's style. A Davidic Psalm.

8 So will I sing praise to Your name forever, paying my vows day by day.
