Psalm 65

God's Care For The Earth

1 There will be silence before You, and praise in Zion, O God, And to You the vow will be performed.

1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of David.} Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.

1 Praise is rightfully Yours, God, in Zion; vows to You will be fulfilled.

1 In Zion, God, praise silently awaits you, and vows will be paid to you.

1 To You belongs silence (the submissive wonder of reverence which bursts forth into praise) and praise is due and fitting to You, O God, in Zion; and to You shall the vow be performed.

2 O You who hear prayer, To You all men come.

2 O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

2 All humanity will come to You, the One who hears prayer.

2 Since you hear prayer, everybody will come to you.

2 O You Who hear prayer, to You shall all flesh come.

3 Iniquities prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You forgive them.

3 Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

3 Iniquities overwhelm me; only You can atone for our rebellions.

3 My acts of iniquity they overwhelm me! Our transgressions you blot them out!

3 Iniquities and much varied guilt prevail against me; [yet] as for our transgressions, You forgive and purge them away [make atonement for them and cover them out of Your sight]!

4 How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You To dwell in Your courts We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

4 How happy is the one You choose and bring near to live in Your courts! We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, the holiness of Your temple.

4 How blessed is the one you choose, the one you cause to live in your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of your house, yes, even with the holiness of your Temple.

4 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whom You choose and cause to come near, that he may dwell in Your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

5 By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea;

5 By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

5 You answer us in righteousness, with awe-inspiring works, God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the distant seas;

5 With awesome deeds of justice you will answer us, God our Deliverer; you are the confidence for everyone at the ends of the earth, even for those far away overseas.

5 By fearful and glorious things [that terrify the wicked but make the godly sing praises] do You answer us in righteousness (rightness and justice), O God of our salvation, You Who are the confidence and hope of all the ends of the earth and of those far off on the seas;

6 Who establishes the mountains by His strength, Being girded with might;

6 Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:

6 You establish the mountains by Your power, robed with strength;

6 The One who established the mountains by his strength is clothed with omnipotence.

6 Who by [Your] might have founded the mountains, being girded with power,

7 Who stills the roaring of the seas, The roaring of their waves, And the tumult of the peoples.

7 Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

7 You silence the roar of the seas, the roar of their waves, and the tumult of the nations.

7 He calmed the roar of seas, the roaring of the waves, and the turmoil of the nations.

7 Who still the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples,

8 They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.

8 They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

8 Those who live far away are awed by Your signs; You make east and west shout for joy.

8 Those living at the furthest ends of the earth are seized by fear because of your miraculous deeds. You make the going forth of the morning and the evening shout for joy.

8 So that those who dwell in earth's farthest parts are afraid of [nature's] signs of Your presence. You make the places where morning and evening have birth to shout for joy.

9 You visit the earth and cause it to overflow; You greatly enrich it; The stream of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.

9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

9 You visit the earth and water it abundantly, enriching it greatly. God's stream is filled with water, for You prepare the earth in this way, providing [people] with grain.

9 You take care of the earth, you water it, and you enrich it greatly with the river of God that overflows with water. You provide grain for them, for you have ordained it this way.

9 You visit the earth and saturate it with water; You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; You provide them with grain when You have so prepared the earth.

10 You water its furrows abundantly, You settle its ridges, You soften it with showers, You bless its growth.

10 Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

10 You soften it with showers and bless its growth, soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.

10 You fill the furrows of the field with water so that their ridges overflow. You soften them with rain showers; their sprouts you have blessed.

10 You water the field's furrows abundantly, You settle the ridges of it; You make the soil soft with showers, blessing the sprouting of its vegetation.

11 You have crowned the year with Your bounty, And Your paths drip with fatness.

11 Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.

11 You crown the year with Your goodness; Your ways overflow with plenty.

11 You crown the year with your goodness; your footsteps drop prosperity behind them.

11 You crown the year with Your bounty and goodness, and the tracks of Your [chariot wheels] drip with fatness.

12 The pastures of the wilderness drip, And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.

12 They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.

12 The wilderness pastures overflow, and the hills are robed with joy.

12 The wilderness pastures drip with dew, and the hills wrap themselves with joy.

12 The [luxuriant] pastures in the uncultivated country drip [with moisture], and the hills gird themselves with joy.

13 The meadows are clothed with flocks And the valleys are covered with grain; They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

13 The pastures are clothed with flocks, and the valleys covered with grain. They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.

13 The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep, and the valleys are covered with grain. They shout for joy; yes, they burst out in song! To the Director: A song. A Psalm.

13 The meadows are clothed with flocks, the valleys also are covered with grain; they shout for joy and sing together.
