Psalm 7

Prayer For Justice

1 O LORD my God, in You I have taken refuge; Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me,

1 {Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite.} O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

1 LORD, my God, I seek refuge in you. Deliver me from those who persecute me! Rescue me!

1 O Lord my God, in You I take refuge and put my trust; save me from all those who pursue and persecute me, and deliver me,

2 Or he will tear my soul like a lion, Dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.

2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

2 Otherwise, they will rip me to shreds like a lion, tearing me apart with no one to rescue me.

2 Lest my foe tear my life [from my body] like a lion, dragging me away while there is none to deliver.

3 O LORD my God, if I have done this, If there is injustice in my hands,

3 O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

3 LORD, my God, if I have done this thing, if there is injustice on my hands,

3 O Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands,

4 If I have rewarded evil to my friend, Or have plundered him who without cause was my adversary,

4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

4 if I have rewarded those who did me good with evil, if I have plundered my enemy without justification,

4 If I have paid back with evil him who was at peace with me or without cause have robbed him who was my enemy,

5 Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it; And let him trample my life down to the ground And lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

5 then, let my enemy pursue me, let him overtake me, and let him trample my life to the ground. Interlude Let him put my honor into the dust.

5 Let the enemy pursue my life and take it; yes, let him trample my life to the ground and lay my honor in the dust. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

6 Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; Lift up Yourself against the rage of my adversaries, And arouse Yourself for me; You have appointed judgment.

6 Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.

6 Get up, LORD, in your anger! Rise up, because of the fury of my enemies; Arouse yourself for me; you have ordained justice.

6 Arise, O Lord, in Your anger; lift up Yourself against the rage of my enemies; and awake [and stir up] for me the justice and vindication [that] You have commanded.

7 Let the assembly of the peoples encompass You, And over them return on high.

7 So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

7 Let the assembly of the nations gather around you, and you will sit high above them.

7 Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about You, and return on high over them.

8 The LORD judges the peoples; Vindicate me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.

8 The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

8 For the LORD will judge the nations. Judge me according to my righteousness, LORD, and according to my integrity, Exalted One.

8 The Lord judges the people; judge me, O Lord, and do me justice according to my righteousness [my rightness, justice, and right standing with You] and according to the integrity that is in me.

9 O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; For the righteous God tries the hearts and minds.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

9 Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. For you are the righteous God who discerns the inner thoughts.

9 Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the [uncompromisingly] righteous [those upright and in harmony with You]; for You, Who try the hearts and emotions and thinking powers, are a righteous God.

10 My shield is with God, Who saves the upright in heart.

10 My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.

10 God is my shield, the one who delivers the upright in heart.

10 My defense and shield depend on God, Who saves the upright in heart.

11 God is a righteous judge, And a God who has indignation every day.

11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

11 God is a righteous judge, a God who is angry with sinners every day.

11 God is a righteous Judge, yes, a God Who is indignant every day.

12 If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready.

12 If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

12 If the ungodly one doesn't repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will string his bow and prepare it.

12 If a man does not turn and repent, [God] will whet His sword; He has strung and bent His [huge] bow and made it ready [by treading it with His foot].

13 He has also prepared for Himself deadly weapons; He makes His arrows fiery shafts.

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

13 He prepares weapons of death for himself, he makes his arrows into fiery shafts.

13 He has also prepared for him deadly weapons; He makes His arrows fiery shafts.

14 Behold, he travails with wickedness, And he conceives mischief and brings forth falsehood.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

14 But the wicked one travails with evil, he conceives malice and gives birth to lies.

14 Behold, [the wicked man] conceives iniquity and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies.

15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out, And has fallen into the hole which he made.

15 He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

15 He digs a pit, even excavates it; then he fell into the hole that he had made.

15 He made a pit and hollowed it out and has fallen into the hole which he made [before the trap was completed].

16 His mischief will return upon his own head, And his violence will descend upon his own pate.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

16 The trouble he planned will return on his own head, and his violence will descend on his skull.

16 His mischief shall fall back in return upon his own head, and his violence come down [with the loose dirt] upon his own scalp.

17 I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

17 But as for me, I will praise the LORD for his righteousness, and I will sing to the name of the LORD Most High. To the Director: On a stringed instrument. A Davidic Psalm.

17 I will give to the Lord the thanks due to His rightness and justice, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.
