Psalm 75

God Judges The Wicked

1 We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks, For Your name is near; Men declare Your wondrous works.

1 {To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph.} Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

1 We praise you, God! We praise you your presence draws near as we declare your wonderful deeds.

1 We give praise and thanks to You, O God, we praise and give thanks; Your wondrous works declare that Your Name is near and they who invoke Your Name rehearse Your wonders.

2 "When I select an appointed time, It is I who judge with equity.

2 When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.

2 "At the time that I choose I will judge the righteous.

2 When the proper time has come [for executing My judgments], I will judge uprightly [says the Lord].

3 "The earth and all who dwell in it melt; It is I who have firmly set its pillars. Selah.

3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

3 While the earth and all its inhabitants melt away, it is I who keep its pillars firm." Interlude

3 When the earth totters, and all the inhabitants of it, it is I Who will poise and keep steady its pillars. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

4 "I said to the boastful, 'Do not boast,' And to the wicked, 'Do not lift up the horn;

4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

4 I will say to the proud, "Don't brag," and to the wicked, "Don't vaunt your strength.

4 I said to the arrogant and boastful, Deal not arrogantly [do not boast]; and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn [of personal aggrandizement].

5 Do not lift up your horn on high, Do not speak with insolent pride.'"

5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

5 Don't use your strength to fight heaven or speak from stubborn arrogance."

5 Lift not up your [aggressive] horn on high, speak not with a stiff neck and insolent arrogance.

6 For not from the east, nor from the west, Nor from the desert comes exaltation;

6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

6 For exaltation comes not from the east, the west, or the wilderness,

6 For not from the east nor from the west nor from the south come promotion and lifting up.

7 But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another.

7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

7 since God is the judge. This one he will debase or that one he will exalt.

7 But God is the Judge! He puts down one and lifts up another.

8 For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams; It is well mixed, and He pours out of this; Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs.

8 For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

8 For there is a cup in the hand of the LORD, foaming with well-mixed wine that he will pour out, leaving only the dregs, from which all the wicked of the earth will drink.

8 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup [of His wrath], and the wine foams and is red, well mixed; and He pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth must drain it and drink its dregs.

9 But as for me, I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

9 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

9 But as for me, I will declare forever, singing praise to the God of Jacob.

9 But I will declare and rejoice forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10 And all the horns of the wicked He will cut off, But the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.

10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

10 I will cut down the strength of the wicked, but the strength of the righteous will be lifted up. To the Director: With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song.

10 All the horns of the ungodly also will I cut off [says the Lord], but the horns of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall be exalted.
