Psalm 84

Longing For God's House

1 How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts!

1 {To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.} How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

1 How lovely are your dwelling places, LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

1 How lovely are Your tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.

2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

2 I desire and long for the Temple courts of the LORD. My heart and body sing for joy to the living God.

2 My soul yearns, yes, even pines and is homesick for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out and sing for joy to the living God.

3 The bird also has found a house, And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God.

3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

3 Even the sparrow found a house for herself and the swallow a nest to lay her young at your altar, LORD of the Heavenly Armies, my king and God.

3 Yes, the sparrow has found a house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young -- "even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.

4 How happy are those who live in your Temple, for they can praise you continuously. Interlude

4 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who dwell in Your house and Your presence; they will be singing Your praises all the day long. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

5 How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion!

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

5 How happy are those whose strength is in you, whose heart is on your path.

5 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whose strength is in You, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

6 Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings.

9 Behold our shield, O God, And look upon the face of Your anointed.

9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

9 God, look at our shield, and show favor to your anointed,

9 Behold our shield [the king as Your agent], O God, and look upon the face of Your anointed!

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

10 for a day in your Temple courts is better than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather stand at the entrance of God's house than live in the tent of wickedness.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather be a doorkeeper and stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
