Zechariah 2

Zechariah's Third Vision

1 Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man with a measuring line in his hand.

1 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

1 I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.

1 Then I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.

1 And I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.

2 So I said, "Where are you going?" And he said to me, "To measure Jerusalem, to see how wide it is and how long it is."

2 Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

2 I asked, "Where are you going?" He answered me, "To measure Jerusalem to determine its width and length."

2 I asked, "Where are you going?" He responded, "To measure Jerusalem in order to determine its width and length."

2 Then said I, Where are you going? And he said to me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its breadth and what is its length.

3 And behold, the angel who was speaking with me was going out, and another angel was coming out to meet him,

3 And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

3 Then the angel who was speaking with me went out, and another angel went out to meet him.

3 Look! That angel who was talking to me left, and another angel came forward to meet him.

3 And behold, the angel who talked with me went forth and another angel went out to meet him,

4 and said to him, "Run, speak to that young man, saying, 'Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the multitude of men and cattle within it.

4 And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

4 He said to him, "Run and tell this young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the number of people and livestock in it."

4 That other angel told him, "Run and tell that young man: "Jerusalem will be an inhabited city without walls due to the number of people and livestock within it.

4 And he said to the second angel, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited and dwell as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it.

5 'For I,' declares the LORD, 'will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.'"

5 For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

5 The declaration of the Lord: "I will be a wall of fire around it, and I will be the glory within it."

5 I myself will be an encircling rampart of fire,' declares the LORD, "and I will be the glory in her midst.'

5 For I, says the Lord, will be to her a wall of fire round about, and I will be the glory in the midst of her.

The Exiles Are Called Home

6 "Ho there! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have dispersed you as the four winds of the heavens," declares the LORD.

6 Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.

6 "Get up! Leave the land of the north"-the Lord's declaration-"for I have scattered you like the four winds of heaven"-the Lord's declaration.

6 ""Come now! Come now! Flee from the land of the north,' declares the LORD, "for I have dispersed you like the four winds of heaven,' declares the LORD.

6 Ho! ho! [Hear and] flee from the land of the north, says the Lord, and from the four winds of the heavens, for to them have I scattered you, says the Lord.

7 "Ho, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon."

7 Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

7 "Go, Zion! Escape, you who are living with Daughter Babylon."

7 ""Come now, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the residents of Babylon.

7 Ho! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon!

The Exiles Are Called To Come Home

8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, "After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye.

8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

8 For the Lord of Hosts says this: "He has sent Me for [His] glory against the nations who are plundering you, for anyone who touches you touches the pupil of His eye.

8 For this is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "In pursuit of glory I was sent to the nations who plundered you, because whoever injures you injures the pupil of my eye.

8 For thus said the Lord of hosts, after [His] glory had sent me [His messenger] to the nations who plundered you -- "for he who touches you touches the apple or pupil of His eye:

9 "For behold, I will wave My hand over them so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me.

9 For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me.

9 I will move against them with My power, and they will become plunder for their own servants. Then you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent Me.

9 And look, I will shake my fist over them, and they will become plunder for their former slaves. And you will know that the LORD of the Heavenly Armies sent me."'"

9 Behold, I will swing my hand over them and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then you shall know (recognize and understand) that the Lord of hosts has sent me [His messenger].

10 "Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," declares the LORD.

10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

10 "Daughter Zion, shout for joy and be glad, for I am coming to dwell among you"-the Lord's declaration.

10 "Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! Take note! I am coming to live in your midst," declares the LORD.

10 Sing and rejoice, O Daughter of Zion; for behold, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of you, says the Lord.

11 "Many nations will join themselves to the LORD in that day and will become My people Then I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you.

11 And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

11 "Many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day and become My people. I will dwell among you, and you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent Me to you.

11 "Many nations will cling to the LORD at that time and will become my people. I will live in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has sent me to you.

11 And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day and shall be My people. And I will dwell in the midst of you, and you shall know (recognize and understand) that the Lord of hosts has sent me [His messenger] to you.

12 "The LORD will possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.

12 And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

12 The Lord will take possession of Judah as His portion in the Holy Land, and He will once again choose Jerusalem.

12 The LORD will take possession of Judah as his own property in the Holy Land and he will choose Jerusalem again.

12 And the Lord shall inherit Judah as His portion in the holy land and shall again choose Jerusalem.

13 "Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for He is aroused from His holy habitation."

13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

13 Let all people be silent before the Lord, for He is coming from His holy dwelling."

13 Be silent, every living thing, in the presence of the LORD, because he is emerging from his Holy Place."

13 Be still, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused and risen from His holy habitation.
