Zechariah 5

Zechariah's Sixth Vision

1 Then I lifted up my eyes again and looked, and behold, there was a flying scroll.

1 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.

1 I looked up again and saw a flying scroll.

1 Then I looked up and saw a flying scroll!

1 Again I lifted up my eyes and behold, I saw a scroll flying or floating in the air!

2 And he said to me, "What do you see?" And I answered, "I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits."

2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.

2 "What do you see?" he asked me. "I see a flying scroll," I replied, "30 feet long and 15 feet wide."

2 And the angel asked me, "What do you see?" I answered him, "I'm looking at a flying scroll. It's 20 cubits long and ten cubits wide."

2 And the angel said to me, What do you see? And I answered, I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits or thirty feet and its breadth is ten cubits or fifteen feet.

3 Then he said to me, "This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the whole land; surely everyone who steals will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears will be purged away according to the writing on the other side.

3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

3 Then he said to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for every thief will be removed according to what is written on one side, and everyone who swears [falsely] will be removed according to what is written on the other side.

3 He responded to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the surface of the whole earth, because, according to this side of the scroll, all thieves will be ejected, and according to the other side of the scroll, all liars will be ejected."

3 Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land; for everyone who steals shall be cut off from henceforth according to it [the curse written on this subject on the scroll], and everyone who swears falsely shall be cut off from henceforth according to it.

4 "I will make it go forth," declares the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and consume it with its timber and stones."

4 I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

4 I will send it out,"-the declaration of the Lord of Hosts-"and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It will stay inside his house and destroy it along with its timbers and stones."

4 "I am bringing this about," declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. "The curse will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who lies in my name. The curse will remain in his house until that house has been completely destroyed, right down to its timber and stones."

4 I will bring [the curse] forth, says the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears falsely by My name; and it shall abide in the midst of his house and shall consume it, both its timber and its stones.

Zechariah's Seventh Vision

5 Then the angel who was speaking with me went out and said to me, "Lift up now your eyes and see what this is going forth."

5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

5 Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, "Look up and see what this is that is approaching."

5 Then the angel who had been talking with me stepped forward and told me, "Please look up and see what's going out."

5 Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, Lift up now your eyes and see what this is that goes forth.

6 I said, "What is it?" And he said, "This is the ephah going forth." Again he said, "This is their appearance in all the land

6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth.

6 So I asked, "What is it?" He responded, "It's a measuring basket that is approaching." And he continued, "This is their iniquity in all the land."

6 So I asked, "What is it?" He replied, "This is a basket making its appearance." He also said, "This is what it appears to be in the entire land."

6 And I said, What is it? [What does it symbolize?] And he said, This that goes forth is an ephah[-sized vessel for separate grains all collected together]. This, he continued, is the symbol of the sinners mentioned above and is the resemblance of their iniquity throughout the whole land.

7 (and behold, a lead cover was lifted up); and this is a woman sitting inside the ephah."

7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.

7 Then a lead cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting inside the basket.

7 Look, a round lead cover was being lifted, and there was one woman seated inside the basket!

7 And behold, a round, flat weight of lead was lifted and there sat a woman in the midst of the ephah[-sized vessel].

8 Then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he threw her down into the middle of the ephah and cast the lead weight on its opening.

8 And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.

8 "This is Wickedness," he said. He shoved her down into the basket and pushed the lead weight over its opening.

8 And the angel said, "This is evil!" So he shoved her back into the basket and snapped the round, lead cover over the opening.

8 And he said, This is lawlessness (wickedness)! And he thrust her back into the ephah[-sized vessel] and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth of it!

9 Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and there two women were coming out with the wind in their wings; and they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens.

9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.

9 Then I looked up and saw two women approaching with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and sky.

9 Then I looked up to see two women coming forward with the wind filling their wings. (They had wings like those of a stork.) They took up the basket, holding it between the earth and sky.

9 Then lifted I up my eyes and looked, and behold, there were two women coming forward! The wind was in their wings, for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah[-sized vessel] between the earth and the heavens.

10 I said to the angel who was speaking with me, "Where are they taking the ephah?"

10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?

10 So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, "Where are they taking the basket?"

10 So I asked the angel who was talking to me, "Where are they taking the basket?"

10 Then said I to the angel who talked with me, Where are they taking the ephah[-sized vessel]?

11 Then he said to me, "To build a temple for her in the land of Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there on her own pedestal."

11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.

11 "To build a shrine for it in the land of Shinar," he told me. "When that is ready, [the basket] will be placed there on its pedestal."

11 He answered me, "To the land of Shinar, so they can build a temple to the woman in the basket. Then when its preparations are complete, the basket will be set there in its place."

11 And he said to me, To the land of Shinar [Babylonia] to build it a house, and when it is finished, to set up the ephah[-sized vessel -- "the symbol of such sinners and their guilt] there upon its own base.
