Judgment Of Jerusalem And The Nations

1 Woe to her who is (A)rebellious and (B)defiled,The (C)tyrannical city!

1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!

1 Woe to the city that is rebellious(a)(A) and defiled,(B)the oppressive city!

1 Woe to this filthy, polluted, and oppressive city!

1 Woe (judgment is coming) to her who is rebellious and defiled,The tyrannical city [Jerusalem]!

2 She (D)heeded no voice,She (E)accepted no instruction.She did not (F)trust in the Lord,She did not (G)draw near to her God.

2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

2 She has not obeyed;(C)she has not accepted discipline.(D)She has not trusted(E) in Yahweh;she has not drawn near to her God.

2 It won't obey anyone. It won't accept discipline. It does not trust in the LORD. It does not approach God.

2 She did not listen and heed the voice [of God];She accepted no correction.She did not trust in the Lord [but trusted her own power];She did not draw near to her God [but to the pagan gods of Baal or Molech].

3 Her (H)princes within her are roaring lions,Her judges are (I)wolves at evening;They leave nothing for the morning.

3 Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.

3 The(b) princes within her are roaring lions;(F)her judges are wolves of the night,(G)which leave nothing for(c) the morning.

3 Its national officials are roaring lions; its judges are like wolves of the night that don't leave the bones for the morning.

3 Her officials within her are roaring lions;Her judges are [as hungry as] the wolves at evening,They leave nothing for the morning.

4 Her prophets are (J)reckless, treacherous men;Her (K)priests have profaned the sanctuary.They have done violence to the law.

4 Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

4 Her prophets are reckless(H)treacherous men.Her priests profane the sanctuary;they do violence to instruction.(I)

4 Its prophets are arrogant and treacherous. Its priests have contaminated the sanctuary. They give perverse interpretations of the Law.

4 Her prophets are reckless and treacherous men;Her priests have profaned the sanctuary;They have done violence to the law [by pretending their word is God’s word].(A)

5 The Lord is (L)righteous (M)within her;He will (N)do no injustice.(O)Every morning He brings His justice to light;He does not fail.But the unjust (P)knows no shame.

5 The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

5 The righteous Lord is in her;(J)He does no wrong.(K)He applies His justice morning by morning;He does not fail at dawn,yet the one who does wrong knows no shame.(L)

5 The righteous LORD who lives within her will do no wrong; he will bring justice to light morning by morning. He never fails, but the unjust are shameless.

5 The Lord is righteous within her;He will do no injustice.Every morning He brings His justice to light;He does not fail.But the unjust person knows no shame.

6 “I have cut off nations;Their corner towers are in ruins.I have made their streets (Q)desolate,With no one passing by;Their (R)cities are laid waste,Without a man, (S)without an inhabitant.

6 I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.

6 I have cut off nations;their corner towers(M) are destroyed.I have laid waste their streets,with no one to pass through.Their cities lie devastated,without a person, without an inhabitant.(N)

6 "I have destroyed nations their fortifications are deserted. I have turned their main thoroughfares into wastelands where no one will travel. Their cities are desolate; as a result, not one man remains no, not even a single resident.

6 “I [the Lord] have cut off and destroyed nations [as a warning to Judah];Their corner towers (battlements) are in ruins.I have made their streets desolateSo that no one passes by;Their cities are destroyedSo that there is no man, there is no inhabitant.

7 “I said, ‘Surely you will revere Me,(T)Accept instruction.’So her dwelling will (U)not be cut offAccording to all that I have appointed concerning her.But they were eager to (V)corrupt all their deeds.

7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

7 I thought: You will certainly fear Meand accept correction.Then her dwelling place(d)would not be cut offbased on all that I had allocated to her.However, they became more corruptin all their actions.

7 I have said, "If only you would fear me, if only you would take my instructions to heart.' Then their houses would not have been torn down. I have chastened them, but they were eager to corrupt everything they were doing."

7 “I said, ‘Most certainly you will [reverently] fear Me;Accept correction.’So Jerusalem’s dwelling will not be cut offIn accordance with all that I have appointed concerning her [punishment],But they were eager [even rising early] to make all their deeds corrupt.(B)

8 “Therefore (W)wait for Me,” declares the Lord,“For the day when I rise up as a witness.Indeed, My decision is to (X)gather nations,To assemble kingdoms,To pour out on them My indignation,All My burning anger;For (Y)all the earth will be devouredBy the fire of My zeal.

8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

8 Therefore, wait for Me(O)this is the Lord’s declaration—until the day I rise up for plunder.(e)For My decision is to gather nations,to assemble kingdoms,in order to pour out My indignation(P) on them,all My burning anger;for the whole earth will be consumedby the fire of My jealousy.(Q)

8 "Just you wait!" declares the LORD. "The day will come when I stand up as a prosecutor, for I am determined to assemble the nations and to gather the kingdoms, in order to pour out my indignation upon them all of my fierce anger. All the earth will be consumed by the fire of my jealousy.

8 “Therefore [you of the godly remnant of Judah, patiently] wait for Me,” declares the Lord,“[Wait] for the day when I rise up as a witness [against the nations].For it is My decision and My right to gather the nations,To assemble kingdoms,To pour out on them My indignation,All [the heat of] My burning anger;For [in that day] all the earth shall be consumedBy the fire of My zeal.

Final Restoration Promised

9 “For then I will (a)give to the peoples (Z)purified lips,That all of them may (AA)call on the name of the Lord,To serve Him (b)shoulder to shoulder.

9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.

9 For I will then restorepure(R) speech to the peoplesso that all of them may callon the name of Yahwehand serve Him with a single purpose.(f)

9 Indeed, then I will return my people to a pure language so that they all may call upon the name of the LORD, serving him with a united will.

9 “Then I will give to the peoples [clear and pure speech from] purified lips [which reflect their purified hearts],That all of them may call on the name of the Lord,To serve Him shoulder to shoulder (united).

10 “From beyond the rivers of (AB)EthiopiaMy (c)worshipers, (d)My dispersed ones,Will (AC)bring My offerings.

10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering.

10 From beyond the rivers of Cush(S)My supplicants, My dispersed people,will bring an offering to Me.

10 "From beyond the rivers of Sudan my worshipers including my dispersed people will present offerings to me.

10 “From beyond the rivers of EthiopiaMy worshipers, [the descendants of] My dispersed ones,Will bring My offerings.

11 “In that day you will (AD)feel no shameBecause of all your deedsBy which you have rebelled against Me;For then I will remove from your midstYour (AE)proud, exulting ones,And you will never again be haughtyOn My (AF)holy mountain.

11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.

11 On that day you(g) will not be put to shame(T)because of everything you have donein rebelling(U) against Me.For then I will removeyour proud,(V) arrogant people from among you,and you will never again be haughtyon My holy mountain.(W)

11 When this happens, you will not be ashamed of your actions by which you sinned against me, because I will remove from among you those who revel in pride. Arrogance will have no place in my holy mountain.

11 “On that day you [Israel] will feel no shameBecause of all your actsBy which you have rebelled and sinned against Me;Then I will remove from among youYour rejoicing ones who delight in their pride;And you will never again behave arrogantlyOn My holy mountain [Mount Zion].

12 “But I will leave among youA (AG)humble and lowly people,And they will (AH)take refuge in the name of the Lord.

12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

12 I will leavea meek and humble people(X) among you,and they will take refuge in the name of Yahweh.

12 I will keep a humble and gentle people among you, and they will trust in the name of the LORD.

12 “But I will leave among youA humble and lowly people,And they will take refuge and trust confidently in the name of the Lord.

13 “The (AI)remnant of Israel will (AJ)do no wrongAnd (AK)tell no lies,Nor will a deceitful tongueBe found in their mouths;For they will (AL)feed and lie downWith no one to make them tremble.”

13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

13 The remnant(Y) of Israel will no longerdo wrong or tell lies;a deceitful tongue will not be foundin their mouths.But they will pasture and lie down,with nothing to make them afraid.(Z)

13 The survivors of Israel will not practice lawlessness nor tell lies, nor will a deceitful message be found in their mouths, because they will eat and rest, with no one to cause fear."

13 “The remnant of Israel will do no wrongNor speak lies,Nor will a deceitful tongueBe found in their mouths;For they will eat and lie downWith no one to make them tremble and feel afraid.”

A Song Of Joy

14 Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion!(AM)Shout in triumph, O Israel!Rejoice and exult with all your heart,O daughter of Jerusalem!

14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

14 Sing for joy, Daughter Zion;shout loudly, Israel!Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,Daughter Jerusalem!

14 "Sing aloud, daughter of Zion! Shout out, Israel! Rejoice with all of your heart, daughter of Jerusalem!

14 Shout for joy, O Daughter of Zion!Shout in triumph, O Israel!Rejoice, be in high spirits and glory with all your heart,O Daughter of Jerusalem [in that day]!

15 The Lord has taken away (AN)His judgments against you,He has cleared away your enemies.The King of Israel, the Lord, is (AO)in your midst;You will (AP)fear disaster no more.

15 The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

15 The Lord has removed your punishment;He has turned back your enemy.The King of Israel, Yahweh, is among you;you need no longer fear harm.

15 The LORD has acquitted you; turning back your adversaries. Israel's king, the LORD, is among you; you will not fear disaster anymore.

15 The Lord has taken away the judgments against you;He has cleared away your enemies.The King of Israel, even the Lord [Himself], is in your midst;You will no longer fear disaster.

16 (AQ)In that day it will be said to Jerusalem:(AR)Do not be afraid, O Zion;(AS)Do not let your hands fall limp.

16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.

16 On that day it will be said to Jerusalem:“Do not fear;Zion, do not let your hands grow weak.(AA)

16 "When all of this happens, it will be told Jerusalem, "Don't be afraid!" and to Zion, "Don't lose courage!"

16 In that day it will be said to Jerusalem:“Do not be afraid, O Zion;Do not let your hands fall limp.

17 “The Lord your God is (AT)in your midst,A (e)(AU)victorious warrior.He will (AV)exult over you with joy,He will (f)be quiet in His love,He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

17 Yahweh your God is among you,a warrior(AB) who saves.He will rejoice over you(AC) with gladness.He will bring you quietness(h) with His love.He will delight in you with shouts of joy.”(AD)

17 The LORD your God among you is powerful he will save and he will take joyful delight in you. In his love he will renew you with his love; he will celebrate with singing because of you.

17 “The Lord your God is in your midst,A Warrior who saves.He will rejoice over you with joy;He will be quiet in His love [making no mention of your past sins],He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

Israel Will Return Home

18 “I will gather those who (AW)grieve about the appointed feasts—They (g)came from you, O Zion;The reproach of exile is a burden on (h)them.

18 I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.

18 I will gather those who have been driven(AE)from the appointed festivals;they will be a tribute from you(i)and a reproach on her.(j)

18 I will gather the afflicted from the solemn assembly; those who were with you, who were bearing a burden of disgrace.

18 “I will gather those [Israelites in captivity] who grieve about the appointed feasts—They came from you, [O Zion];On whom the reproach [of exile] is a burden.

19 “Behold, I am going to deal at that timeWith all your (AX)oppressors,I will save the (AY)lameAnd gather the outcast,And I will turn their (AZ)shame into (BA)praise and renownIn all the earth.

19 Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.

19 Yes, at that timeI will deal with all who afflict you.I will save the lame(AF) and gather the scattered;(AG)I will make those who were disgracedthroughout the earthreceive praise and fame.

19 "Watch how I deal with everyone who oppresses you! At that time I will rescue the one who is lame, and I will draw to me the one who has been driven away. I will honor them with praise and with a good reputation in every land where they have been put to shame.

19 “Behold, at that time I am going to dealWith all your oppressors;I will save the lameAnd gather the scattered,And I will turn their shame into praise and renownIn every land [where they have suffered].(C)

20 “At that time I will (BB)bring you in,Even at the time when I gather you together;Indeed, I will give you (BC)renown and praiseAmong all the peoples of the earth,When I (BD)restore your fortunes before your eyes,”Says the Lord.

20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD.

20 At that time I will bring you(k) back,yes, at the time I will gather you.I will give you fame and praiseamong all the peoples of the earth,when I restore your fortunes(AH) before your eyes.Yahweh has spoken.

20 At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. Indeed, I will give you a good reputation, making you praiseworthy among all of the people of the world, when I restore your prosperity before your eyes," says the LORD.

20 “At that time I will bring you in,Yes, at the time I gather you together;For I will make you a name and a praiseAmong all the peoples of the earthWhen I restore your fortunes [and freedom] before your eyes,”Says the Lord.
