Every Wise Woman Builds Her House

חַכְמ֣וֹת

ḥaḵ·mō·wṯ

נָ֭שִׁים

nā·šîm

בָּנְתָ֣ה

bā·nə·ṯāh

､ בֵיתָ֑הּ

ḇê·ṯāh;

וְ֝אִוֶּ֗לֶת

wə·’iw·we·leṯ,

but the foolishness

בְּיָדֶ֥יהָ

bə·yā·ḏe·hā

. תֶהֶרְסֶֽנּוּ׃

ṯe·her·sen·nū.

pulls it down .

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ

hō·w·lêḵ

בְּ֭יָשְׁרוֹ

bə·yā·šə·rōw

in his uprightness

יְרֵ֣א

yə·rê

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

וּנְל֖וֹז

ū·nə·lō·wz

but [he who is] perverse

דְּרָכָ֣יו

də·rā·ḵāw

. בּוֹזֵֽהוּ׃

bō·w·zê·hū.

בְּֽפִי־

bə·p̄î-

In the mouth

אֱ֭וִיל

’ĕ·wîl

of a fool

חֹ֣טֶר

ḥō·ṭer

[is] a rod

､ גַּאֲוָ֑ה

ga·’ă·wāh;

of pride ､

וְשִׂפְתֵ֥י

wə·śip̄·ṯê

but the lips

חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm,

of the wise

. תִּשְׁמוּרֵֽם׃

tiš·mū·rêm.

will preserve them .

בְּאֵ֣ין

bə·’ên

אֲ֭לָפִים

’ă·lā·p̄îm

אֵב֣וּס

’ê·ḇūs

the manger [is]

､ בָּ֑ר

bār;

וְרָב־

wə·rāḇ-

but much

תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת

tə·ḇū·’ō·wṯ,

increase [comes]

בְּכֹ֣חַ

bə·ḵō·aḥ

by the strength

. שֽׁוֹר׃

šō·wr.

of an ox .

עֵ֣ד

‘êḏ

אֱ֭מוּנִים

’ĕ·mū·nîm

of faithfulness

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ יְכַזֵּ֑ב

yə·ḵaz·zêḇ;

וְיָפִ֥יחַ

wə·yā·p̄î·aḥ

but will utter

כְּ֝זָבִ֗ים

kə·zā·ḇîm,

עֵ֣ד

‘êḏ

. שָֽׁקֶר׃

šā·qer.

בִּקֶּשׁ־

biq·qeš-

לֵ֣ץ

lêṣ

､ חָכְמָ֣ה

ḥāḵ·māh

､ וָאָ֑יִן

wā·’ā·yin;

and does not [find it] ､

וְדַ֖עַת

wə·ḏa·‘aṯ

לְנָב֣וֹן

lə·nā·ḇō·wn

to him who understands

. נָקָֽל׃

nā·qāl.

[is] easy .

לֵ֣ךְ

lêḵ

Go

מִ֭נֶּגֶד

min·ne·ḡeḏ

from the presence

､ לְאִ֣ישׁ

lə·’îš

of a man ､

כְּסִ֑יל

kə·sîl;

וּבַל־

ū·ḇal-

and when not

יָ֝דַ֗עְתָּ

yā·ḏa‘·tā,

you do perceive [in him]

שִׂפְתֵי־

śip̄·ṯê-

the lips

. דָֽעַת׃

ḏā·‘aṯ.

חָכְמַ֣ת

ḥā·ḵə·maṯ

עָ֭רוּם

‘ā·rūm

of the prudent

הָבִ֣ין

hā·ḇîn

[is] to understand

､ דַּרְכּ֑וֹ

dar·kōw;

וְאִוֶּ֖לֶת

wə·’iw·we·leṯ

but the folly

כְּסִילִ֣ים

kə·sî·lîm

. מִרְמָֽה׃

mir·māh.

[is] deceit .

אֱ֭וִלִים

’ĕ·wi·lîm

יָלִ֣יץ

yā·lîṣ

､ אָשָׁ֑ם

’ā·šām;

at sin ､

וּבֵ֖ין

ū·ḇên

יְשָׁרִ֣ים

yə·šā·rîm

. רָצֽוֹן׃

rā·ṣō·wn.

[there is] favor .

לֵ֗ב

lêḇ,

י֭וֹדֵעַ

yō·w·ḏê·a‘

מָרַּ֣ת

mār·raṯ

נַפְשׁ֑וֹ

nap̄·šōw;

. וּ֝בְשִׂמְחָת֗וֹ

ū·ḇə·śim·ḥā·ṯōw,

and its joy .

לֹא־

lō-

Not

יִתְעָ֥רַב

yiṯ·‘ā·raḇ

. זָֽר׃

zār.

בֵּ֣ית

bêṯ

רְ֭שָׁעִים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

､ יִשָּׁמֵ֑ד

yiš·šā·mêḏ;

will be overthrown ､

וְאֹ֖הֶל

wə·’ō·hel

but the tent

יְשָׁרִ֣ים

yə·šā·rîm

of the upright

. יַפְרִֽיחַ׃

yap̄·rî·aḥ.

will flourish .

יֵ֤שׁ

yêš

דֶּ֣רֶךְ

de·reḵ

יָ֭שָׁר

yā·šār

[that seems] right

לִפְנֵי־

lip̄·nê-

to

､ אִ֑ישׁ

’îš;

a man ､

וְ֝אַחֲרִיתָ֗הּ

wə·’a·ḥă·rî·ṯāh,

but its end [is]

דַּרְכֵי־

dar·ḵê-

the way

. מָֽוֶת׃

mā·weṯ.

of death .

גַּם־

gam-

בִּשְׂח֥וֹק

biś·ḥō·wq

– יִכְאַב־

yiḵ·’aḇ-

לֵ֑ב

lêḇ;

וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ‪‬

wə·’a·ḥă·rî·ṯāh

and the end

שִׂמְחָ֣ה

śim·ḥāh

. תוּגָֽה׃

ṯū·ḡāh.

[may be] grief .

､ מִדְּרָכָ֣יו

mid·də·rā·ḵāw

With his own ways ､

יִ֭שְׂבַּע

yiś·ba‘

will be filled

ס֣וּג

sūḡ

לֵ֑ב

lêḇ;

וּ֝מֵעָלָ֗יו

ū·mê·‘ā·lāw,

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

a man [will be satisfied]

. טֽוֹב׃

ṭō·wḇ.

פֶּ֭תִי

pe·ṯî

יַאֲמִ֣ין

ya·’ă·mîn

לְכָל־

lə·ḵāl

– דָּבָ֑ר

dā·ḇār;

word –

וְ֝עָר֗וּם

wə·‘ā·rūm,

but the prudent

יָבִ֥ין

yā·ḇîn

. לַאֲשֻׁרֽוֹ׃

la·’ă·šu·rōw.

considers his steps .

חָכָ֣ם

ḥā·ḵām

､ יָ֭רֵא

yā·rê

וְסָ֣ר

wə·sār

､ מֵרָ֑ע

mê·rā‘;

וּ֝כְסִ֗יל

ū·ḵə·sîl,

but a fool

､ מִתְעַבֵּ֥ר

miṯ·‘ab·bêr

. וּבוֹטֵֽחַ׃

ū·ḇō·w·ṭê·aḥ.

and is self-confident .

קְֽצַר־

qə·ṣar-

-

אַ֭פַּיִם

’ap·pa·yim

A quick-tempered [man]

יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה

ya·‘ă·śeh

､ אִוֶּ֑לֶת

’iw·we·leṯ;

foolishness ､

וְאִ֥ישׁ

wə·’îš

and a man

מְ֝זִמּ֗וֹת

mə·zim·mō·wṯ,

of wicked intentions

. יִשָּׂנֵֽא׃

yiś·śā·nê.

is hated .

נָחֲל֣וּ

nā·ḥă·lū

פְתָאיִ֣ם

p̄ə·ṯā·yim

､ אִוֶּ֑לֶת

’iw·we·leṯ;

וַֽ֝עֲרוּמִ֗ים

wa·‘ă·rū·mîm,

but the prudent

יַכְתִּ֥רוּ

yaḵ·ti·rū

. דָֽעַת׃

ḏā·‘aṯ.

with knowledge .

שַׁח֣וּ

ša·ḥū

Will bow

רָ֭עִים

rā·‘îm

the evil

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

– טוֹבִ֑ים

ṭō·w·ḇîm;

the good –

וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים

ū·rə·šā·‘îm,

and the wicked

עַֽל־

‘al-

at

שַׁעֲרֵ֥י

ša·‘ă·rê

. צַדִּֽיק׃

ṣad·dîq.

of the righteous .

גַּם־

gam-

､ לְ֭רֵעֵהוּ

lə·rê·‘ê·hū

by his own neighbor ､

יִשָּׂ֣נֵא

yiś·śā·nê

רָ֑שׁ

rāš;

the poor [man]

וְאֹהֲבֵ֖י

wə·’ō·hă·ḇê

עָשִׁ֣יר

‘ā·šîr

the rich [has]

. רַבִּֽים׃

rab·bîm.

בָּז־

bāz-

He who despises

לְרֵעֵ֥הוּ

lə·rê·‘ê·hū

､ חוֹטֵ֑א

ḥō·w·ṭê;

sins ､

וּמְחוֹנֵ֖ן

ū·mə·ḥō·w·nên

but he who has mercy on

[עניים]

‘ă·nā·yîm

-

(עֲנָוִ֣ים)

‘ă·nā·wîm

the poor

. אַשְׁרָֽיו׃

’aš·rāw.

happy [is] he .

הֲ‍ֽלוֹא־

hălō·w-

Not

יִ֭תְעוּ

yiṯ·‘ū

do they go astray

חֹ֣רְשֵׁי

ḥō·rə·šê

؟ רָ֑ע

rā‘;

וְחֶ֥סֶד

wə·ḥe·seḏ

וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת

we·’ĕ·meṯ,

and truth [belong]

חֹ֣רְשֵׁי

ḥō·rə·šê

to those who devise

. טֽוֹב׃

ṭō·wḇ.

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

In all

עֶ֭צֶב

‘e·ṣeḇ

יִהְיֶ֣ה

yih·yeh

､ מוֹתָ֑ר

mō·w·ṯār;

וּדְבַר־

ū·ḏə·ḇa·rś-

but chatter [leads]

שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם

p̄ā·ṯa·yim,

אַךְ־

’aḵ-

. לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃

lə·maḥ·sō·wr.

עֲטֶ֣רֶת

‘ă·ṭe·reṯ

חֲכָמִ֣ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm

of the wise

､ עָשְׁרָ֑ם

‘ā·šə·rām;

is their riches ､

אִוֶּ֖לֶת

’iw·we·leṯ

[But] the foolishness

כְּסִילִ֣ים

kə·sî·lîm

. אִוֶּֽלֶת׃

’iw·we·leṯ.

[is] folly .

מַצִּ֣יל

maṣ·ṣîl

､ נְ֭פָשׁוֹת

nə·p̄ā·šō·wṯ

עֵ֣ד

‘êḏ

אֱמֶ֑ת

’ĕ·meṯ;

וְיָפִ֖חַ

wə·yā·p̄i·aḥ

כְּזָבִ֣ים

kə·zā·ḇîm

. מִרְמָֽה׃

mir·māh.

a deceitful [witness] .

בְּיִרְאַ֣ת

bə·yir·’aṯ

In the fear

יְ֭הוָה

Yah·weh

､ מִבְטַח־

miḇ·ṭaḥ-

[there is] confidence ､

עֹ֑ז

‘ōz;

וּ֝לְבָנָ֗יו

ū·lə·ḇā·nāw,

and His children

יִהְיֶ֥ה

yih·yeh

will have

. מַחְסֶֽה׃

maḥ·seh.

a [place] of refuge .

יִרְאַ֣ת

yir·’aṯ

The fear

יְ֭הוָה

Yah·weh

מְק֣וֹר

mə·qō·wr

[is] a fountain

､ חַיִּ֑ים

ḥay·yîm;

of life ､

לָ֝ס֗וּר

lā·sūr,

to turn [one] away

מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי

mim·mō·qə·šê

from the snares

. מָֽוֶת׃

mā·weṯ.

of death .

בְּרָב־

bə·rāḇ-

עָ֥ם

‘ām

､ הַדְרַת־

haḏ·raṯ-

[is] honor ､

מֶ֑לֶךְ

me·leḵ;

וּבְאֶ֥פֶס

ū·ḇə·’e·p̄es

but in the lack

לְ֝אֹ֗ם

lə·’ōm,

מְחִתַּ֥ת

mə·ḥit·taṯ

[is] the downfall

. רָזֽוֹן׃

rā·zō·wn.

of a prince .

אֶ֣רֶךְ

’e·reḵ

[He who is] slow

אַ֭פַּיִם

’ap·pa·yim

רַב־

raḇ-

､ תְּבוּנָ֑ה

tə·ḇū·nāh;

has understanding ､

וּקְצַר־

ū·qə·ṣar-

but [he who is] impulsive

ר֝֗וּחַ

rū·aḥ,

מֵרִ֥ים

mê·rîm

. אִוֶּֽלֶת׃

’iw·we·leṯ.

חַיֵּ֣י

ḥay·yê

[is] life to

､ בְ֭שָׂרִים

ḇə·śā·rîm

the body ､

לֵ֣ב

lêḇ

מַרְפֵּ֑א

mar·pê;

וּרְקַ֖ב

ū·rə·qaḇ

but [is] rottenness to

עֲצָמ֣וֹת

‘ă·ṣā·mō·wṯ

. קִנְאָֽה׃

qin·’āh.

עֹ֣שֵֽׁק

‘ō·šêq-

He who oppresses

דָּ֭ל

dāl

the poor

חֵרֵ֣ף

ḥê·rêp̄

､ עֹשֵׂ֑הוּ

‘ō·śê·hū;

וּ֝מְכַבְּד֗וֹ

ū·mə·ḵab·bə·ḏōw,

but he who honors Him

חֹנֵ֥ן

ḥō·nên

. אֶבְיֽוֹן׃

’eḇ·yō·wn.

on the needy .

– בְּֽ֭רָעָתוֹ

bə·rā·‘ā·ṯōw

In his wickedness –

יִדָּחֶ֣ה

yid·dā·ḥeh

רָשָׁ֑ע

rā·šā‘;

וְחֹסֶ֖ה

wə·ḥō·seh

but has a refuge

בְמוֹת֣וֹ

ḇə·mō·w·ṯōw

. צַדִּֽיק׃

ṣad·dîq.

the righteous .

בְּלֵ֣ב

bə·lêḇ

In the heart

– נָ֭בוֹן

nā·ḇō·wn

of him who has understanding –

תָּנ֣וּחַ

tā·nū·aḥ

חָכְמָ֑ה

ḥāḵ·māh

וּבְקֶ֥רֶב

ū·ḇə·qe·reḇ

but [what is] in the heart

כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים

kə·sî·lîm,

. תִּוָּדֵֽעַ׃

tiw·wā·ḏê·a‘.

is made known .

צְדָקָ֥ה

ṣə·ḏā·qāh

תְרֽוֹמֵֽם־

ṯə·rō·w·mêm-

､ גּ֑וֹי

gō·w;

a nation ､

וְחֶ֖סֶד

wə·ḥe·seḏ

לְאֻמִּ֣ים

lə·’um·mîm

to [any] people

. חַטָּֽאת׃

ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ.

sin [is] .

רְֽצוֹן־

rə·ṣō·wn-

The favor [is]

מֶ֭לֶךְ

me·leḵ

– לְעֶ֣בֶד

lə·‘e·ḇeḏ

toward a servant –

מַשְׂכִּ֑יל

maś·kîl;

וְ֝עֶבְרָת֗וֹ

wə·‘eḇ·rā·ṯōw,

תִּהְיֶ֥ה

tih·yeh

. מֵבִֽישׁ׃

mê·ḇîš.

him who causes shame .
