תִּ֭תְהַלֵּל

בְּי֣וֹם

– מָחָ֑ר

mā·ḥār;

כִּ֤י

לֹא־

not

תֵ֝דַ֗ע

ṯê·ḏa‘,

מַה־

mah-

יֵּ֥לֶד

yê·leḏ

may bring forth

. יֽוֹם׃

yō·wm.

a day .

יְהַלֶּלְךָ֣

yə·hal·lel·ḵā

זָ֣ר

zār

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and not

– פִ֑יךָ

p̄î·ḵā;

your own mouth –

､ נָ֝כְרִ֗י

nā·ḵə·rî,

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

. שְׂפָתֶֽיךָ׃

śə·p̄ā·ṯe·ḵā.

your own lips .

､ כֹּֽבֶד־

kō·ḇeḏ-

אֶ֭בֶן

’e·ḇen

a stone [is]

– וְנֵ֣טֶל

wə·nê·ṭel

and weighty –

הַח֑וֹל

ha·ḥō·wl;

sand [is]

וְכַ֥עַס

wə·ḵa·‘as

but a wrath [is]

אֱ֝וִ֗יל

’ĕ·wîl,

כָּבֵ֥ד

kā·ḇêḏ

. מִשְּׁנֵיהֶֽם׃

miš·šə·nê·hem.

than the two of them .

､ אַכְזְרִיּ֣וּת

’aḵ·zə·rî·yūṯ

חֵ֭מָה

ḥê·māh

Wrath [is]

– וְשֶׁ֣טֶף

wə·še·ṭep̄

and a torrent –

אָ֑ף

’āp̄;

וּמִ֥י

ū·mî

but who

יַ֝עֲמֹד

ya·‘ă·mōḏ

[is] able to stand

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

؟ קִנְאָֽה׃

qin·’āh.

ט֭וֹבָה‪‬

ṭō·w·ḇāh

תּוֹכַ֣חַת

tō·w·ḵa·ḥaṯ

מְגֻלָּ֑ה

mə·ḡul·lāh;

מֵֽאַהֲבָ֥ה

mê·’a·hă·ḇāh

. מְסֻתָּֽרֶת׃

mə·sut·tā·reṯ.

carefully concealed .

נֶ֭אֱמָנִים

ne·’ĕ·mā·nîm

פִּצְעֵ֣י

piṣ·‘ê

– אוֹהֵ֑ב

’ō·w·hêḇ;

of a friend –

וְ֝נַעְתָּר֗וֹת

wə·na‘·tā·rō·wṯ,

but [are] deceitful

נְשִׁיק֥וֹת

nə·šî·qō·wṯ

. שׂוֹנֵֽא׃

śō·w·nê.

of an enemy .

נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

שְׂ֭בֵעָה

ḇê·‘āh

תָּב֣וּס

tā·ḇūs

– נֹ֑פֶת

nō·p̄eṯ;

the honeycomb –

וְנֶ֥פֶשׁ

wə·ne·p̄eš

but to a soul

רְ֝עֵבָ֗ה

rə·‘ê·ḇāh,

כָּל־

kāl-

מַ֥ר

mar

. מָתֽוֹק׃

mā·ṯō·wq.

[is] sweet .

כְּ֭צִפּוֹר

kə·ṣip·pō·wr

נוֹדֶ֣דֶת

nō·w·ḏe·ḏeṯ

מִן־

min-

､ קִנָּ֑הּ

qin·nāh;

כֵּֽן־

kên-

So

אִ֝֗ישׁ

’îš,

[Is] a man

נוֹדֵ֥ד

nō·w·ḏêḏ

. מִמְּקוֹמֽוֹ׃

mim·mə·qō·w·mōw.

from his place .

שֶׁ֣מֶן

še·men

וּ֭קְטֹרֶת

ū·qə·ṭō·reṯ

יְשַׂמַּֽח־

yə·śam·maḥ-

– לֵ֑ב

lêḇ;

the heart –

וּמֶ֥תֶק

ū·me·ṯeq

and the sweetness

רֵ֝עֵ֗הוּ

rê·‘ê·hū,

of a [man's] friend

מֵֽעֲצַת־

mê·‘ă·ṣaṯ-

[gives delight] by counsel

. נָֽפֶשׁ׃

nā·p̄eš.

､ רֵֽעֲךָ֨

rê·‘ă·ḵā

Your own friend ､

[ורעה]

wə·rê·‘eh

-

(וְרֵ֪עַ)

wə·rê·a‘

אָבִ֡יךָ

’ā·ḇî·ḵā

– אַֽל־

’al-

not –

תַּעֲזֹ֗ב

ta·‘ă·zōḇ,

וּבֵ֥ית

ū·ḇêṯ

אָחִ֗יךָ

’ā·ḥî·ḵā,

of your brother

אַל־

’al-

תָּ֭בוֹא

tā·ḇō·w

go to

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

– אֵידֶ֑ךָ

’ê·ḏe·ḵā;

of your calamity –

ט֥וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

שָׁכֵ֥ן

šā·ḵên

קָ֝ר֗וֹב

qā·rō·wḇ,

מֵאָ֥ח

mê·’āḥ

. רָחֽוֹק׃

rā·ḥō·wq.

､ חֲכַ֣ם

ḥă·ḵam

Be wise ､

､ בְּ֭נִי

bə·nî

My son ､

וְשַׂמַּ֣ח

wə·śam·maḥ

לִבִּ֑י

lib·bî;

וְאָשִׁ֖יבָה

wə·’ā·šî·ḇāh

that I may answer

חֹרְפִ֣י

ḥō·rə·p̄î

him who reproaches me

. דָבָֽר׃

ḏā·ḇār.

עָר֤וּם

‘ā·rūm

A prudent [man]

רָאָ֣ה

rā·’āh

､ רָעָ֣ה

rā·‘āh

evil ､

– נִסְתָּ֑ר

nis·tār;

[and] hides himself –

פְּ֝תָאיִ֗ם

pə·ṯā·yim,

､ עָבְר֥וּ

‘ā·ḇə·rū

pass on ､

. נֶעֱנָֽשׁוּ׃

ne·‘ĕ·nā·šū.

[and] are punished .

קַח־

qaḥ-

בִּ֭גְדוֹ

biḡ·ḏōw

the garment of him

כִּי־

kî-

עָ֣רַב

‘ā·raḇ

､ זָ֑ר

zār;

for a stranger ､

וּבְעַ֖ד

ū·ḇə·‘aḏ

and for

נָכְרִיָּ֣ה

nā·ḵə·rî·yāh

. חַבְלֵֽהוּ׃

ḥaḇ·lê·hū.

hold it in pledge [when] he is surety .

מְבָ֘רֵ֤ךְ

mə·ḇā·rêḵ

רֵעֵ֨הוּ ׀

rê·‘ê·hū

､ בְּק֣וֹל

bə·qō·wl

with a voice ､

גָּ֭דוֹל

gā·ḏō·wl

､ בַּבֹּ֣קֶר

bab·bō·qer

in the morning ､

הַשְׁכֵּ֑ים

haš·kêm;

קְ֝לָלָ֗ה

qə·lā·lāh,

תֵּחָ֥שֶׁב

tê·ḥā·šeḇ

it will be counted

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

to him .

דֶּ֣לֶף

de·lep̄

ט֭וֹרֵד

ṭō·w·rêḏ

בְּי֣וֹם

bə·yō·wm

on a day

סַגְרִ֑יר

saḡ·rîr;

וְאֵ֥שֶׁת

wə·’ê·šeṯ

and a woman

[מדונים]

mi·ḏō·w·nîm

-

(מִ֝דְיָנִ֗ים)

miḏ·yā·nîm,

. נִשְׁתָּוָֽה׃

niš·tā·wāh.

צֹפְנֶ֥יהָ

ṣō·p̄ə·ne·hā

Whoever restrains her

צָֽפַן־

ṣā·p̄an-

､ ר֑וּחַ

rū·aḥ;

the wind ､

וְשֶׁ֖מֶן

wə·še·men

and oil with

､ יְמִינ֣וֹ

yə·mî·nōw

his right hand ､

. יִקְרָֽא׃

yiq·rā.

בַּרְזֶ֣ל

bar·zel

[As] iron

– בְּבַרְזֶ֣ל

bə·ḇar·zel

iron –

יָ֑חַד

yā·ḥaḏ;

וְ֝אִ֗ישׁ

wə·’îš,

so a man

יַ֣חַד

ya·ḥaḏ

פְּנֵֽי־

pə·nê-

the countenance

. רֵעֵֽהוּ׃

rê·‘ê·hū.

of his friend .

נֹצֵ֣ר

nō·ṣêr

תְּ֭אֵנָה

tə·’ê·nāh

יֹאכַ֣ל

yō·ḵal

will eat

פִּרְיָ֑הּ

pir·yāh;

וְשֹׁמֵ֖ר

wə·šō·mêr

so he who waits

אֲדֹנָ֣יו

’ă·ḏō·nāw

. יְכֻבָּֽד׃

yə·ḵub·bāḏ.

will be honored .

כַּ֭מַּיִם

kam·ma·yim

As in water

הַפָּנִ֣ים

hap·pā·nîm

face [reflects]

､ לַפָּנִ֑ים

lap·pā·nîm;

face ､

כֵּ֤ן

kên

so

לֵֽב־

lêḇ-

heart [reveals]

הָ֝אָדָ֗ם

hā·’ā·ḏām,

of a man

. לָאָדָֽם׃

lā·’ā·ḏām.

the man .

שְׁא֣וֹל

šə·’ō·wl

[ואבדה]

wa·’ă·ḇad·dōh

(וַ֭אֲבַדּוֹ)

wa·’ă·ḇad·dōw

and Destruction

לֹ֣א

lō

– תִשְׂבַּ֑עְנָה

ṯiś·ba‘·nāh;

וְעֵינֵ֥י

wə·‘ê·nê

so the eyes

הָ֝אָדָ֗ם

hā·’ā·ḏām,

of man

לֹ֣א

lō

. תִשְׂבַּֽעְנָה׃

ṯiś·ba‘·nāh.

are satisfied .

מַצְרֵ֣ף

maṣ·rêp̄

The refining pot [is]

､ לַ֭כֶּסֶף

lak·ke·sep̄

וְכ֣וּר

wə·ḵūr

and the furnace

– לַזָּהָ֑ב

laz·zā·hāḇ;

וְ֝אִ֗ישׁ

wə·’îš,

and a man [is valued]

לְפִ֣י

lə·p̄î

by

. מַהֲלָלֽוֹ׃

ma·hă·lā·lōw.

אִ֥ם

’im

תִּכְתּֽוֹשׁ־

tiḵ·tō·wōš-

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָאֱוִ֨יל ׀

hā·’ĕ·wîl

בַּֽמַּכְתֵּ֡שׁ

bam·maḵ·têš

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

הָ֭רִיפוֹת

hā·rî·p̄ō·wṯ

with crushed grain

､ בַּֽעֱלִ֑י

ba·‘ĕ·lî;

with a pestle ､

לֹא־

lō-

not

תָס֥וּר

ṯā·sūr

[Yet] will depart

מֵ֝עָלָ֗יו

mê·‘ā·lāw,

. אִוַּלְתּֽוֹ׃

’iw·wal·tōw.

his foolishness .

תֵּ֭דַע

פְּנֵ֣י

､ צֹאנֶ֑ךָ

of your flocks ､

[And] attend

לִ֝בְּךָ֗

lib·bə·ḵā,

. לַעֲדָרִֽים׃

la·‘ă·ḏā·rîm.

to your herds .

כִּ֤י

kî

לֹ֣א

lō

not

､ לְעוֹלָ֣ם

lə·‘ō·w·lām

חֹ֑סֶן

ḥō·sen;

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

nor does [endure]

נֵ֝֗זֶר

nê·zer,

؟ לְד֣וֹר

lə·ḏō·wr

to ؟

[דור]

ḏō·wr

-

؟ (וָדֽוֹר׃)

wā·ḏō·wr.

all generations ؟

､ גָּלָ֣ה

gā·lāh

is removed ､

חָ֭צִיר

ḥā·ṣîr

[when] the hay

､ וְנִרְאָה־

wə·nir·’āh-

and shows itself ､

דֶ֑שֶׁא

ḏe·še;

the tender grass

וְ֝נֶאֶסְפ֗וּ

wə·ne·’es·p̄ū,

and are gathered in

עִשְּׂב֥וֹת

‘iś·śə·ḇō·wṯ

. הָרִֽים׃

hā·rîm.

of the mountains .

כְּבָשִׂ֥ים

kə·ḇā·śîm

The lambs [will provide]

､ לִלְבוּשֶׁ֑ךָ

lil·ḇū·še·ḵā;

your clothing ､

וּמְחִ֥יר

ū·mə·ḥîr

and the price

שָׂ֝דֶ֗ה

ḏeh,

of a field

. עַתּוּדִֽים׃

‘at·tū·ḏîm.

the goats .

וְדֵ֤י ׀

wə·ḏê

And [You shall have] enough

חֲלֵ֬ב

ḥă·lêḇ

עִזִּ֗ים

‘iz·zîm,

､ לְֽ֭לַחְמְךָ

lə·laḥ·mə·ḵā

for your food ､

לְלֶ֣חֶם

lə·le·ḥem

､ בֵּיתֶ֑ךָ

bê·ṯe·ḵā;

of your household ､

וְ֝חַיִּ֗ים

wə·ḥay·yîm,

and the nourishment

. לְנַעֲרוֹתֶֽיךָ׃

lə·na·‘ă·rō·w·ṯe·ḵā.

of your maidservants .
