Matthew 27:32-44 - Jesus Is Crucified

Matthew 27:32-44

32 As they were going out of the city, they found a Cyrenian named Simon, and they forced him to carry Jesus' cross. 33 When they came to a place called Golgotha, which means the Place of the Skull, 34 they gave Him some wine mixed with gall, but when He tasted it, He would not drink it. 35 Then they crucified Him and divided among them His clothes by drawing lots, 36 and sitting down they kept watch of Him there. 37 They put above His head the charge against Him, which read: "THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS."

38 At the same time two robbers were crucified with Him, one at His right and one at His left. 39 And the passers-by kept hissing at Him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, "You who would tear down the temple and build another in three days, save yourself! If you are really the Son of God, come down from the cross." 41 And the high priests, too, made sport of Him, with the scribes and elders, and said, 42 "He saved others but He cannot save Himself. He is the king of Israel, is He? Well, let Him come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43 He has put His trust in God; let God deliver Him now, if He cares for Him, for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" 44 Even the robbers who were crucified with Him made sport of Him in the same way.

Mark 15:21-32

21 They forced a certain passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry His cross -- Simon, a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus. 22 And they led Him to Golgotha, which means, the Place of the Skull. 23 They offered Him wine flavored with myrrh, but He would not take it. 24 Then they crucified Him and divided among them His clothes, by drawing lots for them to see which piece each of them should have. 25 It was nine o'clock in the morning when they crucified Him. 26 And the notice of the charge against Him read, "The king of the Jews."

27 They crucified two robbers along with Him, one at His right and one at His left. 28 Omitted Text. 29 And the passers-by kept hissing at Him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! You are the man who would tear down the temple and build another in three days! 30 Now save yourself by coming down from the cross." 31 The high priests too made sport of Him to one another with the scribes, and kept saying, "He saved others but He cannot save Himself! 32 Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see it and believe!" Even the men who were crucified with Him made sport of Him.

Luke 23:26-43

26 Now as they led Him away, they seized a man named Simon, from Cyrene, as he was coming in from the country, and put the cross on his shoulders, for him to carry as he walked behind Jesus. 27 There was following Him also a vast throng of the people and of women who were beating their breasts and lamenting Him. 28 But Jesus turned to the women and said, "Women of Jerusalem, stop weeping for me, but continue to weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For a time is coming when people will say, 'Happy are the women who are childless, and the women who have never borne and nursed babies!' 30 Then people will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall upon us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us up!' 31 For if they do this when the wood is green, what will they do when it is dry?"

32 Two others, criminals, were also led out to be executed with Him. 33 When they reached the place called "The Skull," they crucified Him there; also the criminals, one at His right and one at His left. 34 They drew lots to divide His clothes among them.

35 Meanwhile, the people stood looking on. Even the members of the council were scoffing at Him and saying, "He saved others, let Him now save Himself, if He really is the Christ of God, His Chosen One!" 36 The soldiers also made sport of Him as they continued to come up and offer Him vinegar, 37 and to say, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!"

38 Yes, there was a placard above His head: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

39 Now one of the criminals who were hanging from their crosses kept abusing Him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Then save yourself and us too!"

40 But the other one reproved him and said, "Do you not fear even God when you are suffering the same penalty? 41 And we are suffering it justly, for we are getting our deserts for what we have done, but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he went on to say, "Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom!"

43 So He said to him, "I solemnly say to you, this very day you will be in paradise with me."

John 19:17-27

17 and He went out carrying the cross by Himself to a spot called The Place of the Skull, or in Hebrew, Golgotha. 18 There they crucified Him, with two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the middle. 19 Pilate had a placard written and had it put over the cross: "JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS."

20 Many of the Jews read this placard, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. 21 So the high priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "You must not write, 'The king of the Jews,' but write, 'He said, I am the king of the Jews.'"

22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written!"

23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took His clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier, except the coat, which was without a seam, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but let us draw for it to see who gets it." This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, "They divided my clothes among them, and for my clothing they cast lots." Now this was what the soldiers did.

25 Near Jesus' cross were standing His mother and her sister Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. 26 So Jesus, on seeing His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing near, said to His mother, "There is your son." 27 Then He said to His disciple, "There is your mother." And from that very hour His disciple took her to his own home.
