Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 When Jesus reached the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

14 They said, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!"

17 Jesus answered, "Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for human nature has not disclosed this to you, but my Father in heaven! 18 But I tell you, your name is Peter, a rock, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not subdue it. 19 I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you forbid on earth will be held in heaven to be forbidden, and whatever you permit on earth will be held in heaven to be permitted."

20 Then he warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

Mark 8:27-30

27 Then Jesus and his disciples went away to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he questioned his disciples and said to them, "Who do people say that I am?"

28 They said to him, "John the Baptist; others say Elijah, and others that you are one of the prophets."

29 And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said to him, "You are the Christ."

30 And he warned them not to say this about him to anyone.
