Hastings

The eldest son of Gershon, that is to say, the eponym of a principal family of Gershonite Levites, Ex 6:17; Nu 3:18; 1Ch 6:17,20. In 1Ch 6:29 [Heb. 14], perhaps owing to some dislocation of the text, the name appears as that of the eponym of a family of Merarites. The patronymic Libnites occurs in Nu 3:21; 26:58. Cf. Ladan.
