Why doth thine heart make thee so proud? Why standest thou so greatly in thine own conceit? Where unto look thine eyes,

That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?

I will show thee, hear thou me; And that which I have seen I will declare:

Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.

And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

Lay down now a pledge, be thou surety for me with thyself: who is he that striketh hands with me?

I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.

Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.

Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.

But, in very deed, hear, I pray thee, Job, my discourse, and, to all my words, give thou ear.

If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

Therefore, thou needest not be afraid of me, neither needest thou to fear that my authority shall be too heavy for thee.

Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

For else the men of understanding and wisdom, that have heard me, might say: 'What canst thou speak?'

But surely not. Learn thou Job not to still give an answer like the foolish,

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

But, now, because it is not so, thou sayest - His anger hath punished, and yet hath he not at all known of transgression;

Even so shall he keep thee - if thou wilt be content - from the bottomless pit that is beneath: and if thou wilt hold the quiet, he shall fill thy table with plenteousness.

But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.

Will thy cry avail, that thou be not in distress, Or all the forces of thy'strength?

Prolong not thou the time, till there come a night for thee, to set other people in thy stead.

Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Where wast thou, when the morning stars praised me together, and all the children of God rejoiced triumphantly?

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

Their tokens and weapons hast thou turned like clay, and set them up again as the changing of a garment.

Yea, thou hast spoiled the ungodly of their light, and broken the arm of the proud.

Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
