So they said to Him, “What sign (attesting miracle) will You do that we may see it and believe You? What [supernatural] work will You do [as proof]?

Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, 'Ye have both known me, and ye have known whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but He who sent me is true, whom ye have not known;

But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed.

Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?

Jesus answered and said to them, 'And if I testify of myself -- my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye -- ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

The Jews, therefore, said to him, 'Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death -- to the age!

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who has died? and the prophets have died: whom makest thou thyself?

Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is [worth] nothing. It is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’

Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not even fifty years old, and You [claim to] have seen Abraham?”

They said therefore to him, How have thine eyes been opened?

they said, therefore, to him, 'Where is that one?' he saith, 'I have not known.'

Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

His parents answered them and said, 'We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.'

They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, 'Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;'

he answered, therefore, and said, 'If he be a sinner -- I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.'

He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

The man answered and said to them, 'Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes!

They replied to the beggar, "You were born entirely in sins [i.e., you have been a sinner all your life], and you are [trying] to teach us?" Then they threw him out [of the synagogue. See verse 22].

It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man?

He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.

Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and [in fact] He is the one who is talking with you.”

and when his own sheep he may put forth, before them he goeth on, and the sheep follow him, because they have known his voice;

and a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they have not known the voice of strangers.'

All who have come before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep would not listen to them.

This commission have I received of my Father. There was again a division among the Jews, because of these sayings.

Jesus answered them, “I have told you so, yet you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name testify concerning Me [they are My credentials and the evidence declaring who I am].
