As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew (Levi) sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me [as My disciple, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk].” And Matthew got up and followed Him.

And he rose and followed him. And while he was at table in Matthew's house, there came many tax-gatherers and sinners, and they dined with Jesus and his disciples.

And His disciples say to Him, Whence is there to us so much bread in the wilderness, as to feed so great a multitude?

And there were four thousand men who took food, together with women and children.

And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?

Do ye not yet perceive, neither remember those five loaves, when there were five thousand men, and how many baskets took ye up?

Neither the seven loaves, when there were four thousand, and how many baskets took ye up?

And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

When they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed and handed over to men [who are His enemies];

He answered, "Yes." When Jesus reached home -- He got there ahead of Simon -- He asked him, "What do you think about it, Simon? From whom do civil rulers collect duties or taxes, from their own citizens or from aliens?"

However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take it and give it to them [to pay the temple tax] for you and Me.”

Then Peter answered [and] said to him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then will there be for us?"

And about the eleventh [hour] he went out [and] found others standing [there] and said to them, 'Why are you standing here the whole day unemployed?'

Is thine eye evil because I am good? Thus the last shall be first, and the first last; for there are many called, but few chosen.
