Luke 9:1 (show verse)

And, having called together the twelve, He gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to heal diseases;

Luke 9:2 (show verse)

and He sent them forth to preach the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick;

Luke 9:3 (show verse)

and He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey??either staff, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; and not to have two coats.

Luke 9:4 (show verse)

"And into whatsoever house ye enter, there abide, and thence depart.

Luke 9:5 (show verse)

And as many as do not receive you, going out from that city, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony against them."

And, going forth, they were passing through the several villages, proclaiming the good news, and healing everywhere.

Now Herod, the tetrarch, heard of all the things that were taking place; and he was thoroughly perplexed, because it was said by some that John was raised from the dead;

Luke 9:8 (show verse)

and by some that Elijah appeared; and, by others, that a certain ancient prophet arose.

Luke 9:9 (show verse)

And Herod said, "John I beheaded; but Who is This concerning Whom I hear such things?" And he was seeking to see Him.

Luke 9:10 (show verse)

And the apostles, having returned, related to Him what they did. And, taking them with Him, He retired privately to a city called Bethsaida.

Luke 9:11 (show verse)

But the multitudes, perceiving it, followed Him; and, having welcomed them, He was speaking to them concerning the Kingdom of God, and those having need of cure He healed.

Luke 9:12 (show verse)

And the day began to decline. And the twelve, coming near, said to Him, "Send away the multitudes; that, going into the villages and country round about, they may lodge and find food; because we are here in a desert place."

Luke 9:13 (show verse)

But He said to them, "Give ye them to eat." And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; unless we, going, should buy food for all this people." (For they were about five thousand men).

Luke 9:14 (show verse)

And He said to His disciples, "Make them recline in companies of about fifty each."

Luke 9:15 (show verse)

And they did so, and made them all recline.

Luke 9:16 (show verse)

And, taking the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up into Heaven, He blessed them, and broke, and kept giving to the disciples to set before the multitude.

And they ate, and were all filled. And there was taken up that which remained to them of broken pieces, twelve baskets.

Luke 9:18 (show verse)

And it came to pass, as He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He asked them, saying, "Who do the multitudes say that I am?"

Luke 9:19 (show verse)

And they, answering, said, 'John the Immerser;' and others, 'Elijah;' and others, 'that a certain prophet of the ancients arose.'

Luke 9:20 (show verse)

And He said to them, "But who say ye that I am?" And Peter, answering, said, "The Christ of God."

Luke 9:21 (show verse)

And He, having admonished them, commanded them to tell this to no one;

Luke 9:22 (show verse)

saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and high priests, and scribes; and be killed, and on the third day be raised up."

Luke 9:23 (show verse)

And He said to all, "If any one wishes to come after Me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Luke 9:24 (show verse)

For whosoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his soul for My sake, the same shall save it.

Luke 9:25 (show verse)

For what is a man profited, in having gained the whole world, but having lost or forfeited himself?

Luke 9:26 (show verse)

For whosoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed, when He cometh in His glory, and in that of the Father, and of the holy angels.

Luke 9:27 (show verse)

And I tell you truly, there are some of those standing here who will in no wise taste of death, till they see the Kingdom of God."

And it came to pass, about eight days after these words, that, taking Peter, and John, and James, He went up into the mountain to pray.

And it came to pass, as He was praying, that the appearance of His countenance was altered, and His raiment became white and dazzling.

And, behold, two men were talking with Him, who, indeed, were Moses and Elijah;

who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

Luke 9:32 (show verse)

Now Peter and those with him had become heavy with sleep; but, having watched through it, they saw His glory, and the two men who were standing with Him.

And it came to pass, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here; and let us make three tents; one for Thee, one for Moses, and one for Elijah;" not knowing what he was saying.

Now, while he was saying these things, there came a cloud, and it was overshadowing them; and they feared, as they entered into the cloud.

And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, the Chosen; hear ye Him."

Luke 9:36 (show verse)

And, when the voice came, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and told no one, in those days, any of the things which they had seen.

And it came to pass on the next day, when they came down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him.

Luke 9:38 (show verse)

And, behold, a man from the multitude cried, saying, "Teacher, I pray Thee to look upon my son, because he is my only begotten.

Luke 9:39 (show verse)

And, behold, a spirit takes him, and suddenly he cries out, and it convulses him with foaming, and with difficulty it departs from him, bruising him;

and I besought Thy disciples to cast it out, but they were not able."

Luke 9:41 (show verse)

And Jesus answering, said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? Bring your son here."

Luke 9:42 (show verse)

And, while he was yet coming, the demon thrust him down, and greatly convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

And they were all amazed at the Majesty of God! And while all were marvelling at all the things which He was doing, He said to His disciples,

Luke 9:44 (show verse)

"Put ye these words into your ears; for the Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men."

Luke 9:45 (show verse)

But they did not understand this saying; and it was veiled from them, that they might not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him concerning this saying.

Luke 9:46 (show verse)

And there entered a reasoning among them, as to which of them should be greatest.

Luke 9:47 (show verse)

Now Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their heart, taking a child, placed it by Himself,

Luke 9:48 (show verse)

and said to them, "Whosoever shall receive this child in My name, receives Me; and whosoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for he that is least among you all, the same is great."

And John, answering, said, "Master, we saw one casting out demons in Thy name; and we forbade him, because he follows not with us."

Luke 9:50 (show verse)

And Jesus said to him, "Forbid him not: for he who is not against you is for you."

Luke 9:51 (show verse)

And it came to pass, when the days for receiving Him up were being completed, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem;

Luke 9:52 (show verse)

and He sent forth messengers before His face; and, journeying onward, they entered into a village of Samaritans, so as to prepare for Him.

Luke 9:53 (show verse)

And they did not receive Him, because His face was as if He were going to Jerusalem.

Luke 9:54 (show verse)

And, seeing it, His disciples, James and John, said, "Lord, dost Thou wish that we bid fire come down from heaven, and consume them?"

Luke 9:55 (show verse)

But, turning, He rebuked them.

Luke 9:56 (show verse)

And they went on to another village.

Luke 9:57 (show verse)

And, as they were journeying in the way, a certain one said to Him, "I will follow Thee wheresoever Thou goest."

And Jesus said to him, "The foxes have dens; and the birds of the heaven lodging-places; but the Son of Man hath not where to recline His head."

Luke 9:59 (show verse)

And He said to another, "Follow Me." But he said, "Lord, permit me, going away, first to bury my father."

Luke 9:60 (show verse)

And He said, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but, going, publish abroad the Kingdom of God."

Luke 9:61 (show verse)

And another said, "I will follow Thee, Lord; but first permit me to bid adieu to those within my house."

Luke 9:62 (show verse)

And Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to a plow, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God."
