Matthew 13:1 (show verse)

The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the seaside.

Matthew 13:2 (show verse)

And great multitudes were gathered together, to him, so that he went into the vessel and sat, and all the multitude stood on the shore.

Matthew 13:3 (show verse)

And he spake many things to them in parables, saying, Behold a sower went forth to sow.

Matthew 13:4 (show verse)

And while he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured them.

Matthew 13:5 (show verse)

Others fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth; and they sprung up immediately, because they had not depth of earth.

And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had not root, they withered away.

Matthew 13:7 (show verse)

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up and choked them.

And others fell on good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty.

Matthew 13:9 (show verse)

He that hath ears to hear let him hear.

Matthew 13:10 (show verse)

And the disciples came and said to him, Why speakest thou to them in parables?

Matthew 13:11 (show verse)

He answered and said to them, Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven; but to them it is not given.

Matthew 13:12 (show verse)

For whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even what he hath.

Matthew 13:13 (show verse)

Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

Matthew 13:14 (show verse)

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah who saith, Hearing ye will hear, but in no wise understand, and seeing ye will see, but in no wise perceive.

Matthew 13:15 (show verse)

For the heart of this people is waxed fat, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed: lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and should be converted and I should heal them.

Matthew 13:16 (show verse)

But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.

Matthew 13:17 (show verse)

For verily I say to you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see the things which ye see, and have not seen them, and to hear the things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Matthew 13:18 (show verse)

Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom,

Matthew 13:19 (show verse)

and considereth it not, the wicked one cometh, and catcheth away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way-side.

Matthew 13:20 (show verse)

But he who received the seed in stony places, is he that heareth the word, and immediately receiveth it with joy.

Matthew 13:21 (show verse)

Yet hath he not root in himself, and so endureth but for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straight-way he is offended.

Matthew 13:22 (show verse)

He that received the seed among the thorns, is he that heareth the word: and the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Matthew 13:23 (show verse)

But he that received seed on the good ground, is he that heareth the word and considereth it: who also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth some an hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty.

Matthew 13:24 (show verse)

He proposed to them another parable, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man sowing good seed in his field.

Matthew 13:25 (show verse)

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amidst the wheat, and went away.

Matthew 13:26 (show verse)

And when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the darnel also.

Matthew 13:27 (show verse)

So the servants of the housholder came to him and said, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? Whence then hath it darnel?

Matthew 13:28 (show verse)

He said to them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said to him, Wilt thou then, that we go and gather them up?

Matthew 13:29 (show verse)

But he said, No: lest gathering up the darnel, ye root up the wheat with them.

Matthew 13:30 (show verse)

Suffer both to grow together till the harvest; and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the darnel, and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.

Matthew 13:31 (show verse)

He proposed to them another parable, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took and sowed in his field:

Which indeed is the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest of herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches of it.

Matthew 13:33 (show verse)

He spake another parable to them: the kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman taking, covered up in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

All these things spake Jesus to the multitude in parables, and without a parable spake he not unto them:

Matthew 13:35 (show verse)

Whereby was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hid from the foundation of the world.

Matthew 13:36 (show verse)

Then Jesus having sent the multitude away, went into the house: and his disciples came to him, saying, Declare to us the parable of the darnel of the field.

Matthew 13:37 (show verse)

He answering said to them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man.

Matthew 13:38 (show verse)

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom, but the darnel are the children of the wicked one.

Matthew 13:39 (show verse)

The enemy that sowed them is the devil: the harvest is the end of the world; the reapers are the angels.

Matthew 13:40 (show verse)

As therefore the darnel are gathered and burnt with fire, so shall it be in the end of this world.

Matthew 13:41 (show verse)

The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them that do iniquity.

Matthew 13:42 (show verse)

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 13:43 (show verse)

Then shall the righteous shine forth as the Sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hid in a field, which a man having found hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking goodly pearls:

Who having found one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea, and gathering of every kind.

Which when it was full, they drew to the shore, and sitting down, gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall come forth and sever the wicked from among the just.

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus saith to them, Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea, Lord.

Then saith he to them, Therefore every scribe instructed unto the kingdom of heaven, is like an housholder, who bringeth out of his treasure things new and old.

And when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence: And coming into his own country,

he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, Whence hath HE this wisdom and these mighty works?

Matthew 13:55 (show verse)

Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brethren, James and Joses and Simon and Judas?

Matthew 13:56 (show verse)

And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath HE all these things?

Matthew 13:57 (show verse)

And they were offended at him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

Matthew 13:58 (show verse)

And he wrought not many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.
