With regard to [the] saints who [are] in the land, they [are the] noble ones in [whom is] all my desire.

being devoted to one another in brotherly love, esteeming one another [more highly] in honor,

Because of this we have been encouraged, and in addition to our encouragement, we rejoiced much more over the joy of Titus, because his spirit had been refreshed by all of you. For if I have boasted anything to him about you, I have not been put to shame, but as I have spoken everything to you in truth, thus also our boasting to Titus {has proven to be true}. And his affection for you is all the more [when he] remembers the obedience of all of you as you welcomed him with fear and trembling.

Longing for you in this way, we determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own souls, because you had become dear to us.

For God [is] my witness, that I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

My children, for whom I am having birth pains again, until Christ is formed in you!

Apart from these external things, [there is] the pressure on me every day of the anxiety about all the churches.

{Although we could have insisted on our own importance} as apostles of Christ, yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children. Longing for you in this way, we determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own souls, because you had become dear to us.
