Afterwards I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, with a great chain in his hand. and he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the devil and satan, and bound him for a thousand years, then cast him into the bottomless pit, there shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should seduce the nations no more, till the thousand years should he fulfilled: and after that, he was to be loosed for a short time.

and they entreated him not to condemn them to the abyss.

for since God did not spare the angels, who had sinned, but having precipitated them to hell, confin'd them to chains of darkness, where they are reserv'd for judgment:

When the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to seduce the nations, which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them to battle: they will be as numerous as the sand of the sea. they will spread on the surface of the earth, and encompass the camp of the saints, and the beloved city: and fire shall descend from God out of heaven, and devour them.

and these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

the devil that seduced them, shall be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
