Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" (which is the first commandment with a promise), "in order that it may be well with you, and you may {live a long time} on the earth."
Furthermore, we have had {our earthly fathers} who disciplined [us], and we respected [them]. Will we not much rather subject ourselves to the Father of spirits and live?

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, so that they will not become discouraged.

Even by his acts, a {young man} will make himself known, whether his acts are pure and upright.
