But a certain man, Simon by name, was in the city before, using sorcery, and astonishing the nation of Samaria, affirming himself to be some great one;
"I know your works and your toil, and your patience, and that you cannot bear evil men; and you tried those who call themselves apostles, and are not, and found them false;
What profit is it, my brethren, if anyone says he has faith, but has not works; can such faith save him?
They profess to know God; but by their works they deny Him; being abominable, and disobedient, and for every good work worthless.
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and are walking in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth;
He who says that he is abiding in Him ought himself also to walk even as He walked.
And Jesus, coming near, spake to them, saying, "All authority was given to Me in Heaven and on earth:
"And, when the Son of man cometh in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit on the throne of His glory; and there will be gathered before Him all the nations; and He will separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;
But henceforth the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."
"Happy are ye, when they shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.
"Think not that I came to destroy the law, or the prophets; I came not to destroy, but to fulfill.
even as Thou gavest Him authority over all flesh, that to all Whom Thou hast given Him He should give eternal life.
"Happy are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from themselves, and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.
And there was given to Him a book of the prophet Isaiah; and, opening the book, He found the place where it had been written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; because He anointed Me to publish good tidings to the poor; He hath sent Me to proclaim release to captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send away the crushed in freedom. to proclaim an acceptable year of the Lord."read more.
And, having closed the book. He gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on Him. And He began to say to them, "To-day has this Scripture been fulfilled in your ears."
And, if Satan also were divided against himself, how would his kingdom stand? because ye say that by Beelzebub I am casting out the demons! But, if I, by Beelzebub, cast out the demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges. But, if I, by the finger of God, cast out the demons, then the Kingdom of God came upon you unexpectedly.
And, beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, He thoroughly interpreted to them, in all the Scriptures, the things concerning Himself.
Jesus said to them, "I am the Bread of Life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes on Me shall never thirst.
And, if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how, then, shall his kingdom stand And, if I by Beelzebub cast out the demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges. But, if I by the Spirit of God cast out the demons, then the Kingdom of God came upon you unexpectedly.
Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world: he that follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the Light of life."
Ye search the Scriptures; because in them ye think ye have eternal life; and these are they that testify concerning Me;
And why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil that good may come?" whose condemnation is just.
Jesus, therefore, said to them again, "Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found This Man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a King!"
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his soul for the sheep.
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believes on Me, though he die, yet shall he live;
For whosoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because ye are Christ's, verily I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
"If Thou art the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, ye will not believe.
Jesus saith to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me.
"I am the true vine, and My Father is the husbandman.
The woman says to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming, Who is called Christ; when He cometh, He will tell us all things." Jesus saith to her, "I who speak to you am He."
I said, therefore, to you, that ye will die in your sins; for, unless ye believe that I am He, ye will die in your sins." They said, therefore, to Him, "Who art Thou?" Jesus said to them, "Even that which I am saying to you from the beginning. I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. But He Who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world."read more.
They perceived not that He was speaking to them of the Father. Jesus, therefore, said, "When ye lift up the Son of Man, then will ye know that I am He; and, of Myself, I do nothing, but, as the Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He Who sent Me is with Me. He hath not left Me alone; because I am always doing the things that please Him." As He spake these things, many believed on Him.
And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, "Art Thou the King of the Jews?" And Jesus said to him, "You say it."
Believe Me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me; or, else, believe Me because of the works themselves.
And Pilate asked Him, "Art Then the King of the Jews?" And He, answering, saith to him, "You say it."
And Pilate asked Him, saying, "Art Thou the King of the Jews?" And He, answering, said to him, "You say it."
In consequence of this, Pilate was seeking to release Him; but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you release this Man, you are not Caesar's friend; every one who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar."
The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we stone Thee not, but for blasphemy, and because, Thou, being a Man, makest Thyself God!"
The Jews, therefore, answered him, "We have a law, and according to the law He ought to die, because He made Himself God's Son."
And He said, "Take heed that ye be not led astray; for many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The season has drawn near!' Go not after them.
But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to Him, "I adjure Thee by the living God, that Thou tell us whether Thou art the Christ, the Son of God" Jesus saith to him, "You said it: nevertheless I say to you, henceforth ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."
But He was silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, and says to Him, "Art Thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" And Jesus said, "I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."
And they all said, "Art Thou, therefore, the Son of God?" And He said to them, "Ye say that I am."
He has trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He desireth Him; because He said, 'I am God's Son.'"
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is This that is speaking blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God only?"
Jesus saith to him, "So long a time am I with you, and you do not know Me, Philip! He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how say you, 'Show us the Father?'
