She had the glory of God. Her light was like a very precious stone, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. The city had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written on each gate, the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. The foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, hyacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each individual gate was one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, as transparent glass. I saw no temple there: for the Jehovah God the Almighty and the Lamb are the temple. The city did not need the sun or the moon to shine on it. For the glory of God and of the Lamb was its light. The nations will walk by means of its light. The kings of the earth bring their glory into it. Its gates will not close in the daytime and there will be no night there. They will bring the glory of the nations into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it. The shameful and deceitful will not enter. Only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life will enter.
Outside are the dogs (impure men) and those who practice spiritism, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and everyone who tells lies.'
