and condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes, having appointed [them] [as] an example for those who are going to be ungodly,
Therefore, let us make every effort to enter into that rest, in order that no one may fall in the same pattern of disobedience.
Now these [things] happened [as] examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil [things], just as those also desired [them], and not become idolaters, as some of them [did], just as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play," nor commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day,read more.
nor put Christ to the test, as some of them tested [him], and were destroyed by snakes, nor grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now these [things] happened to those [people] as an example, but are written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
If then I--[your] Lord and Teacher--wash your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
For in the [same] way formerly the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves [by] being subject to their own husbands,
Brothers, take [as an] example of perseverance and endurance the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
For what credit [is it] if, [when you] sin and are beaten [for it], you endure? But if you endure [when you] do good and suffer [for it], this [finds] favor with God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his footsteps, who did not commit sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth,
Become fellow imitators of me, brothers, and observe those who walk in this way, just as you have us [as] an example.
Now these [things] happened [as] examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil [things], just as those also desired [them],
