And the foremen of the {Israelites}, whom Pharaoh's slave drivers had appointed over them, were beaten [by men who were] saying, "Why have you not completed your portion of brickmaking {as before, both yesterday and today}?"

Be on the alert and strengthen the remaining [things] that are about to die, for I have not found your works completed before my God.

Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem. And from that [time] until now it is being built, but not yet finished.'

{Otherwise} [after] he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish [it], all who see [it] will begin to ridicule him, saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish!'
