And He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He, who made them at first, made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother,
Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman was originally from the man, so also is the man by the woman: but all things are from God.
and be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh:
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh: so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Nevertheless to prevent whoredoms, let every one have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

For a married woman is bound by the law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband die, she is discharged from the law of her husband.
The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth: but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will, only in the Lord:
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the husband: else were your children unclean; but they are holy.
for in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels of God in heaven.
For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels in heaven.
And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry and are given in marriage. But they who are counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
But this I say, brethren, that the time is short: it remains therefore, that even those, who have wives, be as though they had none; and they, that weep, as if they wept not; and they, that rejoice, as if they rejoiced not; and they, that buy, as if they possessed not; and they, that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
But if they have not the gift of continence, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with lust.
God forbid! What! know ye not that he who is joined to an harlot is one body with her? for these two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
Let the husband render to the wife due benevolence; and in like manner also the wife to the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband; and in like manner also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Do not withdraw from one another, unless by consent for a season, that ye may attend to fasting and prayer: and come together again, least Satan tempt you through your incontinency.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave up Himself for it:
Men ought so to love their wives, as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife, loveth himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord also doth the church:
and ye husbands, love your wives, and be not embittered against them.
Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord: for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and the saviour of that body. As the church then is subject to Christ, so also should wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
that they may instruct the young women to be temperate, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be prudent, chaste, keepers at home, good, submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be evil spoken of.
Ye women likewise, be subject to your own husbands, that if any believe not the word, they may yet without the word be gained over by the deportment of the wives, beholding your chaste conversation in the fear of God. Whose adorning, let it not be that without, of plaiting the hair, and putting on of gold, or wearing fine clothes;read more.
but the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For so also formerly the holy women, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being submissive to their husbands; as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him her lord: whose daughters ye are, if ye do well, and are not terrified with any sinful fear.
for I could wish that all men were as I myself am; but every man hath his proper gift from God, one of one kind and another of another? Now to the unmarried and widows I say, it is good for them to continue so, as I do.
His disciples say unto Him, if the case of a man with his wife be thus, it is not adviseable to marry: but He said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying of yours, but those only who have the gift of continence: for there are some eunuchs, who were born so from their mother's womb; and there be some, who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He that can receive this saying, let him receive it.
But if any one think that he acts unbecomingly towards his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and that it ought to be so, let him do what he will; he doth not sin: let them marry. But he, that is stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath determined in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doth well. So that he, who giveth her in marriage, doth well; but he, that giveth her not in marriage, doth better.
But the younger widows refuse: for when they grow wanton against Christ, they will needs marry: and are therefore to be condemned, because they violate their first faith. And withal being idle they learn to go about from house to house: and are not only idle, but tatlers also and busy-bodies, talking of things unbecoming them.read more.
I would therefore have the younger widows marry, bear children, manage houshold affairs, and give no occasion to the adversary for reproach.
