You learned him and were taught by him just as truth is in Jesus.

The Word [Jesus] became flesh (a human being) and lived with us. We saw the glory of the only begotten son from the Father. He was full of loving-kindness and truth.

Jesus proclaimed: I am the way, the truth, and the life! No one comes to the Father except through me.

For I make known to you brothers that the good news that was preached by me is not according to man. I did not receive it from man. I was not taught it! It came to me through revelation from Jesus Christ.

Hold firmly to the true words that I taught you, as the example for you to follow. Remain in the faith and love that are ours in union with Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, who lives in us. Keep (guard) (obey) (preserve) the good things that have been entrusted to you.

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, your minds will be lead away from the simplicity and the purity (cleanness) that is toward Christ. If someone comes and preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you did not receive, or a different good news, which you did not accept, you do well to put up with him.

I am amazed that you so quickly turned away from the One who called you by the grace of Christ. You turned to different good news. Yet this is not another good news. But there are some who trouble (agitate) you, and they would pervert the good news of Christ. If we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you any message other than that which we preached to you, let him be accursed (condemned) (expelled).read more.
We said before and now I say again, if any man preaches to you any message other than what you received, let him be accursed!

We did not yield to them for a moment or an hour! That way the truth of the good news (the whole body of Christian teachings) might continue with you.

This is because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. You heard about this hope from the word of truth, the good news. It came to you even as it did. Everywhere in the entire world it bears fruit and it increases in you also, since the day you heard and knew the grace (loving-kindness) of God in truth.

Knowing this, that Law is not made for a righteous person. It is for the lawless and unruly, the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, and for manslayers. It is for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and everything else that is contrary to the sound teaching. Sound teaching (doctrine) is according to the good news of the glory of the blessed (happy) God. This was committed to my trust.

The secret of godliness is great and it is without controversy. 'He (Jesus Christ) was manifested (revealed) in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, and seen by angels. He preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, and received up in glory.'

This is about his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who came from the seed of David according to the flesh. He was declared to be the Son of God with power through the Spirit of Holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

First of all, I delivered to you what I also received, how Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He was buried, and he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles.

Have this attitude (mind-set) (understanding) (mental state) in you that was also in Christ Jesus. He existed in the form (shape and nature) of God but did not try to be equal with God. O Timothy, guard that which is committed to you. Turn away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from opposition and from false knowledge. Some have professed this knowledge and erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you.

Here is how you know the Spirit of God, every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ came in the flesh is from God. Every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist that you heard was coming and now it is already in the world.

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives with him, and he with God.

Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever loves him that causes the birth also loves him that is born.

When the Spirit of truth comes it will guide you to all truth for it will not speak from itself. It will speak the things it hears and declare to you the things that are to come.

It is the Spirit of the truth. The world cannot receive it. The world does not see or know it. You know it because it lives with you and will be with you.

I will send the helper from the Father, the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father to bear witness of me.

The anointing (special endowment of Holy Spirit) you received from Him is a part of you (is with you) and you do not need anyone (any human) to teach you. His anointing taught you concerning all things. It is no lie. It is truth, just as you were taught you live through him.

This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world. People loved the darkness rather than the light for their works were evil. Every one who does evil hates the light. He does not come to the light because his works would be reproved. He who practices the truth comes to the light. His works are made known that they are from God.

You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk (live) (be occupied) as children of light

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

I have given you an example. You should also do as I have done to you.

Be followers (imitators) of me, even as I also am of Christ.

For this you were called because Christ also suffered for you. He left you an example (a copy for imitation) (a model) that you should follow in his steps.

He that says he lives in union with him should walk as he walked.

If you love me, you will keep (obey) my commandments!

If you obey my commandments you will remain in my love. I have obeyed my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

We know that we know him, when we obey his commandments. He who says: I know him, and does not obey his commandments is a liar! The truth is not in him. Whoever obeys his Word; the love of God is made perfect (complete) (mature) in him. By this we know that we are in union with him.

You believe that there is one God. You do well: the demons also believe, and shudder.

What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith but he does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothes and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them: Go in peace, be warmed and filled; and yet you do not give them food and clothing, what good is it?read more.
Even so, faith without works is dead. It is alone and by itself! A man will say: You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit. Test the spirits to see whether they are from God. This is because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' I will say to them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you workers of evil.'

If any man will say to you here is the Christ or there is the Christ do not believe it. There will arise false Christs and false prophets. They show signs and wonders that will mislead many, even the anointed.

Many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.

But their worship is to no purpose, while they give as their teaching the rules (commands) of men.'

They worship me in vain teaching as doctrines the commands of men.'

These people praise me with their words, said Jehovah, but they never draw near to me in their hearts (deepest thoughts). Their reverence for me comes from the repetitious tradition of men.

Speaking to the Pharisees and scribes He said: You abandon the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. You totally reject the commandment of God that you may keep your tradition.

His answer to them was in the form of a question: Why do you go against the word of God in favor of your tradition?

The Spirit explicitly says that some will fall away from the faith (truth) in later times. Spirits and doctrines of demons will seduce them, through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron.

For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine. Having their ears tickled, they will accumulate teachers who follow after their own lusts. They will turn their ears away from the truth, and turn aside to myths (fiction).

Some have turned aside to vain talk by deviating from these things. They want to be teachers of the Law even though they do not know what they are talking about. They do not understand what they say or what they confidently affirm.

If any man teaches a different doctrine, and does not consent to sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine that is according to godliness, he is proud, knows nothing, has a morbid interest in questions and disputes about words, which leads to envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, frictions between men corrupted in mind and lacking in truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.

There are many unruly (rebellious) men, vain talkers, and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision. They must be stopped. Their mouths must be shut up, for they subvert entire households. They teach things that should not be taught, for the sake of dishonest gain. One of them, a prophet of their own, said: Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons.read more.
This testimony is true. For this cause reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.

There arose false prophets among the people. There will be false teachers among you! They will privately bring in destructive heresies (contrary doctrines), denying even the Master who bought them. They bring swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their lascivious (filthy sensual) deeds. The way of the truth will be maligned.

Christ liberated us for freedom (moral liberty). Stand fast therefore, and do not become entangled again in a yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say to you, that, if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision. You who seek to be righteous by Law are separated from Christ. You have fallen away from grace. For we through the Spirit by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. We are Jews by birth, and not sinners from the nations. Yet we know that a man is not righteous by the works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ. We believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be righteous by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law. The works of the law justify no one. We sought to be righteous in Christ. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
