For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast.
Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law of faith.
But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world.
If Abraham was justified by works, he has something to brag about—but not before God. For what does the Scripture say?
Abraham believed God,
and it was credited to him for righteousness. Now to the one who works, pay is not considered as a gift, but as something owed.
so that no one can boast in His presence.
This is what the Lord says:
The wise man must not boast in his wisdom;
the strong man must not boast in his strength;
the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.
But the one who boasts should boast in this,
that he understands and knows Me—
that I am Yahweh, showing faithful love,
justice, and righteousness on the earth,
for I delight in these things.
This is the Lord’s declaration.
