Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on mischief: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and keepest silence when the wicked swalloweth up a man more righteous than he?

Behold, I cry out of wrong, and I am not heard; I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

Why are not times treasured up with the Almighty? why do not they that know him see his days?

For behold, they lie in wait for my soul; strong ones are gathered against me: not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Jehovah. They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to meet me, and behold.

{An instruction: of Asaph.} Why, O God, hast thou cast off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

Prostrate among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave; whom thou rememberest no more, and who are cut off from thy hand.

Remember, I pray thee, who that was innocent has perished? and where were the upright cut off?

And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind? Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be manifested in him.

And ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear then, house of Israel. Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

And his wife said to him, Dost thou still remain firm in thine integrity? curse God and die. But he said to her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. We have also received good from God, and should we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do. For he will perform what is appointed for me; and many such things are with him. Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him.

Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth +God, let him answer it.

For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked.

Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:

and he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah!

And unto man he said, Lo, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Yea, surely, God acteth not wickedly, and the Almighty perverteth not judgment.

Lo, God is great, and we comprehend him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

Teach us what we shall say unto him! We cannot order our words by reason of darkness.

Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

And be not afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul; but fear rather him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Far be it from thee to do so, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous should be as the wicked far be it from thee! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Cast thy burden upon Jehovah, and he will sustain thee: he will never suffer the righteous to be moved. And thou, O God, wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days. But as for me, I will confide in thee.

And it came to pass during those many days, that the king of Egypt died. And the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and cried; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage;

In the day that I am afraid, I will confide in thee. In God will I praise his word, in God I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can flesh do unto me?

But as for me, I will sing of thy strength; yea, I will sing aloud of thy loving-kindness in the morning; for thou hast been to me a high fortress, and a refuge in the day of my trouble.

Upon God alone, O my soul, rest peacefully; for my expectation is from him.

Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion that seek after my soul; let them be turned backward and confounded that take pleasure in mine adversity;

Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses,

If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image that thou hast set up.

For though the fig-tree shall not blossom, Neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labour of the olive-tree shall fail, And the fields shall yield no food; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, And there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

who, when reviled, reviled not again; when suffering, threatened not; but gave himself over into the hands of him who judges righteously;

Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator.

having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you.

For when he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them; the cry of the afflicted ones hath he not forgotten.

and God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.

For Jehovah saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter; and that there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

For Jehovah knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his loving-kindness, To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

Behold, the wages of your labourers, who have harvested your fields, wrongfully kept back by you, cry, and the cries of those that have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

Jehovah trieth the righteous one; but the wicked, and him that loveth violence, his soul hateth.

But thou, Jehovah, wilt laugh at them; thou wilt have all the nations in derision.

Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and to the hills, to the water-courses and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because ye have borne the ignominy of the nations; therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I have lifted up my hand, saying, Verily the nations that are about you, they shall bear their shame.

Woe to him that getteth iniquitous gain to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the grasp of evil!

Many are the adversities of the righteous, but Jehovah delivereth him out of them all:

And Jehovah turned the captivity of Job, when he had prayed for his friends; and Jehovah gave Job twice as much as he had before. And all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house, and they condoled with him, and comforted him concerning all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him; and every one gave him a piece of money, and every one a golden ring. And Jehovah blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-asses.

They shall not hunger any more, neither shall they thirst any more, nor shall the sun at all fall on them, nor any burning heat;

And he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall not exist any more, nor grief, nor cry, nor distress shall exist any more, for the former things have passed away.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the false swearers, and against those that oppress the hired servant in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith Jehovah of hosts.

But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a powerful hand. And I will stretch out my hand and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof; and after that he will let you go.

When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes; Until I went into the sanctuaries of God; then understood I their end. Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.

Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal pass over.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke my sentence, because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron.

Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and violence; the prey departeth not.

Thou art filled with shame instead of glory; drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of Jehovah's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and a shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

Then shall he say also to those on the left, Go from me, cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: for I hungered, and ye gave me not to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me not to drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye did not clothe me; ill, and in prison, and ye did not visit me.read more.
Then shall they also answer saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and have not ministered to thee? Then shall he answer them saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have not done it to one of these least, neither have ye done it to me. And these shall go away into eternal punishment, and the righteous into life eternal.

for judgment will be without mercy to him that has shewn no mercy. Mercy glories over judgment.

And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and the sinner appear?

Recompense her even as she has recompensed; and double to her double, according to her works. In the cup which she has mixed, mix to her double. So much as she has glorified herself and lived luxuriously, so much torment and grief give to her. Because she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and I am not a widow; and I shall in no wise see grief:
