When Jesus reached the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
Then Jesus and his disciples went away to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he questioned his disciples and said to them, "Who do people say that I am?"
Once when he was praying by himself, with only the disciples near him, he asked them, "Who do the people say that I am?"
and said to him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we look for someone else?"
and he called two of them to him, and sent them to the Master to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we look for someone else?"
And the men went to him and said, "John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, 'Are you the one who was to come, or should we look for someone else?' "
Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" He answered, "Yes."
Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Jesus answered, "As you say, I am a king. It was for this that I was born and for this that I came to the world, to give testimony for truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to my voice."
But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you, on your oath, by the living God, tell us whether you are the Christ, the son of God."
But Jesus was silent and made no answer. The high priest again questioned him and said to him, "Are you the Christ, the son of the Blessed One?"
"If you are the Christ, tell us so." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe me,
And all the crowds of people were astounded, and said, "Can this be the Son of David?"
So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are really the Christ, tell us so frankly!"
And they all said, "Are you the Son of God then?" And he said to them, "I am, as you say!"
And the tempter came up and said to him, "If you are God's son, tell these stones to turn into bread!"
and said to him, "If you are God's son, throw yourself down, for the Scripture says, " 'He will give his angels orders about you, And they will lift you up with their hands So that you may never strike your foot against a stone!' "
and saying, "You who would tear down the sanctuary, and build one in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!"
And the devil said to him, "If you are God's son, tell this stone to turn into bread!"
And he took him to Jerusalem, and made him stand on the summit of the Temple, and said to him, "If you are God's son, throw yourself down from here,
trying to learn for what possible time the spirit of Christ within them in predicting the sufferings destined for Christ intended them and the glories that were to follow them.
