The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor. To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed, and are roughly treated, and are homeless; and we toil, working with our own hands; when we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure; when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me.
Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us.
For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example.
but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,
Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
A wise man will hear and increase in learning,
And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
The mind of the prudent acquires knowledge,
And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal?
