'Adversity' in the Bible
Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom: “Thus says your brother Israel, ‘You know all the hardship that has come upon us [as a nation];
David replied to Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every adversity,
Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress.
“And if they are bound in bonds [of adversity],And held by cords of affliction,
“He rescues the afflicted in their affliction,And opens their ears [so that they pay attention to His voice] in times of oppression.
He says to himself, “I will not be moved;For throughout all generations I will not be in adversity [for nothing bad will happen to me].”
That You may grant him [power to calm himself and find] peace in the days of adversity,Until the pit is dug for the wicked and ungodly.
A friend loves at all times,And a brother is born for adversity.
If you are slack (careless) in the day of distress,Your strength is limited.
In the day of prosperity be joyful,But in the day of adversity consider thatGod has made the one as well as the other,So that man will not find out anything that will be after him.
