'Ask' in the Bible

So ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest."

Now when John heard in prison about the deeds Christ had done, he sent his disciples to ask a question:

"So the farmer's men come and ask him, "'Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed on your land? Where then does the darnel come from?'

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached Him with her sons. She knelt down to ask Him for something.

But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

The baptism of John—from where did it come? From heaven [that is, ordained by God] or from men?” And they began debating among themselves [considering the implications of their answer], saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe John?’

They began discussing this among themselves: "If we say, "From heaven,' he will ask us, "Then why didn't you believe him?' But if we say, "From humans,' we are afraid of the crowd, because everyone regards John as a prophet."

And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

And all were amazed and awe-struck, so they began to ask one another, "What does this mean? Here is a new sort of teaching--and a tone of authority! And even to foul spirits he issues orders and they obey him!"

When he was alone with the Twelve and those around him, they began to ask him about the parables.

His disciples asked him, "You see the crowd jostling you, and yet you ask, "Who touched me?'"

And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

After He had left the crowd and gone indoors, His disciples began to ask Him about this figure of speech.

Heaving a deep and troubled sigh, He said, "Why do the men of to-day ask for a sign? In solemn truth I tell you that no sign will be given to the men of to-day."

From that place Jesus and His disciples went to the villages belonging to Caesarea Philippi. On the way He began to ask His disciples, "Who do people say that I am?"

And in the house again the disciples began to ask him about this.

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached Him and said, “Teacher, we want You to do something for us if we ask You.”

But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

So they debated the matter with one another. "Suppose we say, 'Heavenly,'" they argued, "he will ask, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

And Sadducees--who say there is no resurrection--came up to him and began to ask him, saying,

And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

They began to be sorrowful, and to ask him one by one, "Surely not I?" And another said, "Surely not I?"

The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do for them as was his custom.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead.

When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him to ask him to come and save his servant's life.

When the men reached Him, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask You, ‘Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?’”

So he instructed them, "The harvest is vast, but the workers are few. So ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers out into his harvest.

But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, "Lord, don't you care that my sister left me to serve alone? Ask her therefore to help me."

If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

So if Satan too is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? I ask you this because you claim that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.

When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

This led Jesus to ask the lawyers and Pharisees, "Is it allowable to cure people on the Sabbath?"

“But without exception they all began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.’

“Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m going to try them out. I ask you to excuse me.’

If he can't, he will send a delegation to ask for terms of peace while the other king is still far away.

So he summoned one of the servants and began asking what this [celebration] meant.

So he said, 'Then I ask you, father, that you send him to my father's house,

And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:

They discussed this among themselves: "If we say, "From heaven,' he will ask, "Then why didn't you believe him?'

And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he handed over Jesus to their will.

So the Jews were asking [among themselves], “Will He kill Himself? Is that why He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?”

So the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had gained his sight. He told them, "He put mud on my eyes, then I washed, and now I can see."

But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

these then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father and then we will be satisfied.”
