'Away' in the Bible
The wicked are not like this;instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Lord, why do You stand so far away?Why do You hide in times of trouble?
All have turned away;all alike have become corrupt.There is no one who does good,not even one.
But You, Lord, don’t be far away.My strength, come quickly to help me.
Consider my affliction and trouble,and take away all my sins.
Do not hide Your face from me;do not turn Your servant away in anger.You have been my helper;do not leave me or abandon me,God of my salvation.
Do not drag me away with the wicked,with the evildoers,who speak in friendly ways with their neighborswhile malice is in their hearts.
Indeed, my life is consumed with griefand my years with groaning;my strength has failedbecause of my sinfulness,and my bones waste away.
Then I acknowledged my sin to Youand did not conceal my iniquity.I said,“I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”and You took away the guilt of my sin.Selah
Turn away from evil and do what is good;seek peace and pursue it.
Let them be like chaff in the wind,with the angel of the Lord driving them away.
Do not let the foot of the arrogant man come near meor the hand of the wicked one drive me away.
But the wicked will perish;the Lord’s enemies, like the glory of the pastures,will fade away—they will fade away like smoke.
Turn away from evil and do what is good,and dwell there forever.
Remove Your torment from me;I fade away because of the force of Your hand.
For one can see that wise men die;foolish and stupid men also pass away.Then they leave their wealth to others.
Like sheep they are headed for Sheol;Death will shepherd them.The upright will rule over them in the morning,and their form will waste away in Sheol,far from their lofty abode.
Wash away my guiltand cleanse me from my sin.
Turn Your face away from my sinsand blot out all my guilt.
I said, “If only I had wings like a dove!I would fly away and find rest.
How far away I would flee;I would stay in the wilderness.Selah
Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns—whether green or burning—He will sweep them away.
Those who live far away are awed by Your signs;You make east and west shout for joy.
May God be praised!He has not turned away my prayeror turned His faithful love from me.
As smoke is blown away,so You blow them away.As wax melts before the fire,so the wicked are destroyed before God.
You ascended to the heights, taking away captives;You received gifts from people,even from the rebellious,so that the Lord God might live there.
How suddenly they become a desolation!They come to an end, swept away by terrors.
Do not let the oppressed turn away in shame;let the poor and needy praise Your name.
They treacherously turned away like their fathers;they became warped like a faulty bow.
Then we will not turn away from You;revive us, and we will call on Your name.
You took away Your people’s guilt;You covered all their sin.Selah
For all our days ebb away under Your wrath;we end our years like a sigh.
Our lives last seventy yearsor, if we are strong, eighty years.Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow;indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.
My days are like a lengthening shadow,and I wither away like grass.
They will perish, but You will endure;all of them will wear out like clothing.You will change them like a garment,and they will pass away.
At Your rebuke the waters fled;at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away—
When You hide Your face,they are terrified;when You take away their breath,they die and return to the dust.
So He said He would have destroyed them—if Moses His chosen onehad not stood before Him in the breachto turn His wrath away from destroying them.
Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths,their courage melting away in anguish,
I fade away like a lengthening shadow;I am shaken off like a locust.
Take insult and contempt away from me,for I have kept Your decrees.
Turn away the disgrace I dread;indeed, Your judgments are good.
The arrogant constantly ridicule me,but I do not turn away from Your instruction.
You know when I sit down and when I stand up;You understand my thoughts from far away.
God, if only You would kill the wicked—you bloodthirsty men, stay away from me—
He set them in position forever and ever;He gave an order that will never pass away.
