'Marketplaces' in the Bible
“To what should I compare this generation? It’s like children sitting in the marketplaces who call out to each other:
greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by people.
Wherever He would go, into villages, towns, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him that they might touch just the tassel of His robe. And everyone who touched it was made well.
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
“Woe to you Pharisees! You love the front seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
“Beware of the scribes, who want to go around in long robes and who love greetings in the marketplaces, the front seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets.
