And the name of the second he called Ephraim, for [he said], "God has made me fruitful in the land of my misfortune."

Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, For misfortune he has brought them out, to slay them on the mountains, and to annihilate them from the face of the earth? Turn from the heat of thine anger, and repent of this evil against thy people!

There exists another misfortune that I have observed on earth, and it is a heavy burden upon human beings:

God gives a man riches, property, and wealth so that he lacks nothing that his heart desires, yet God does not enable him to enjoy the fruit of his labor -- instead, someone else enjoys it! This is fruitless and a grave misfortune.

I have seen another misfortune on the earth: It is an error a ruler makes.
