'People' in the Bible
Why are the nations in an uproar [in turmoil against God],And why do the people devise a vain and hopeless plot?
I will not be intimidated or afraid of the ten thousandsWho have set themselves against me all around.
Salvation belongs to the Lord;May Your blessing be upon Your people. Selah.
The Lord judges the peoples;Judge me, O Lord, and grant me justice according to my righteousness and according to the integrity within me.
For He who avenges blood [unjustly shed] remembers them (His people); He does not forget the cry of the afflicted and abused.
Save and help and rescue, Lord, for godly people cease to be,For the faithful vanish from among the sons of men.
Have all the workers of wickedness and injustice no knowledge,Who eat up my people as they eat bread,And do not call upon the Lord?
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores His captive people,Then Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.
He does not put out his money at interest [to a fellow Israelite],And does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.
For You save an afflicted and humble people,But bring down those [arrogant fools] with haughty eyes.
You have rescued me from the contentions of the people; You have placed me as the head of the nations;A people whom I have not known serve me.
But I am [treated as] a worm [insignificant and powerless] and not a man;I am the scorn of men and despised by the people.
They will come and declare His righteousnessTo a people yet to be born—that He has done it [and that it is finished].
Save Your people and bless Your inheritance;Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever.
The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable] strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.
Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the nation whose God is the Lord,The people whom He has chosen as His own inheritance.
You sell Your people cheaply,And have not increased Your wealth by their sale.
You make us a byword among the nations,A laughingstock among the people.
Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear [to my instruction]:Forget your people and your father’s house;
The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; The rich among the people will seek your favor.
I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the peoples will praise and give You thanks forever and ever.
The princes of the people have gathered together as the people of the God of Abraham,For the shields of the earth belong to God;He is highly exalted.
He summons the heavens above,And the earth, to judge His people:
“Hear, O My people, and I will speak;O Israel, I will testify against you:I am God, your God.
Have workers of wickedness no knowledge or no understanding? They eat up My people as though they ate breadAnd have not called upon God.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores [the fortunes of] His people,Let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
Do not kill them, or my people will forget;Scatter them and make them wander [endlessly] back and forth by Your power, and bring them down,O Lord our shield!
You have made Your people experience hardship; You have given us wine to drink that makes us stagger and fall.
Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people;Pour out your heart before Him.God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Come and see the works of God,He is awesome in His deeds toward the children of men.
O God, when You went out before Your people,When You marched through the wilderness, Selah.
O God, You are awesome and profoundly majestic from Your sanctuary; The God of Israel gives strength and power to His people.Blessed be God!
May he judge Your people with righteousness,And Your afflicted with justice.
The mountains will bring peace and prosperity to the people,And the hills, in [the establishment of] righteousness.
May he bring justice to the poor among the people,Save the children of the needyAnd crush the oppressor,
Therefore his people return to this place,And waters of abundance [offered by the irreverent] are [blindly] drunk by them.
Remember this, O Lord, the enemy has scoffed,And a foolish and impious people has spurned Your name.
You have with Your [great] arm redeemed Your people,The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
Your way [of escape for Your people] was through the sea,And Your paths through the great waters,And Your footprints were not traceable.
You led Your people like a flockBy the hand of Moses and Aaron [to the promised goal].
Listen, O my people, to my teaching;Incline your ears to the words of my mouth [and be willing to learn].
“Behold, He struck the rock so that waters gushed outAnd the streams overflowed; Can He give bread also?Or will He provide meat for His people?”
But God led His own people forward like sheepAnd guided them in the wilderness like [a good shepherd with] a flock.
He also handed His people over to the sword,And was infuriated with His inheritance (Israel).
From tending the ewes with nursing young He brought himTo shepherd Jacob His people,And Israel His inheritance.
O God, the nations have invaded [the land of Your people] Your inheritance; They have defiled Your sacred temple; They have laid Jerusalem in ruins.
So we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture,Will give You thanks forever; We will declare and publish Your praise from generation to generation.
“Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you—O Israel, if you would listen to Me!
“But My people would not listen to My voice,And Israel did not [consent to] obey Me.
“Oh, that My people would listen to Me,That Israel would walk in My ways!
They concoct crafty schemes against Your people,And conspire together against Your hidden and precious ones.
You have forgiven the wickedness of Your people; You have covered all their sin. Selah.
Will You not revive us and bring us to life again,That Your people may rejoice in You?
I will hear [with expectant hope] what God the Lord will say,For He will speak peace to His people, to His godly ones—But let them not turn again to folly.
Blessed and happy are the people who know the joyful sound [of the trumpet’s blast]!They walk, O Lord, in the light and favor of Your countenance!
Once You spoke in a vision to Your godly ones,And said, “I have given help to one who is mighty [giving him the power to be a champion for Israel];I have exalted one chosen from the people.
You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep [forgotten as soon as they are gone];In the morning they are like grass which grows anew—
They crush Your people, O Lord,And afflict and abuse Your heritage.
Consider thoughtfully, you senseless (stupid ones) among the people; And you [dull-minded] fools, when will you become wise and understand?
For the Lord will not abandon His people,Nor will He abandon His inheritance.
For He is our GodAnd we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.Today, if you will hear His voice,
“For forty years I was grieved and disgusted with that generation,And I said, ‘They are a people who err in their heart,And they do not acknowledge or regard My ways.’
Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns;Indeed, the world is firmly and securely established, it shall not be moved; He will judge and rule the people with fairness.”
Know and fully recognize with gratitude that the Lord Himself is God;It is He who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His].We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Let this be recorded for the generation to come,That a people yet to be created will praise the Lord.
And they wandered from one nation to another,From one kingdom to another people,
There the Lord greatly increased [the number of] His people,And made them more powerful than their enemies.
He turned the heart [of the Egyptians] to hate His people,To deal craftily with His servants.
Egypt was glad when they departed,For the dread and fear of them had fallen on the Egyptians.
He brought out His people with joy,And His chosen ones with a joyful shout,
Remember me, O Lord, when You favor Your people.Visit me with Your salvation [when You rescue them],
Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against His peopleAnd He detested His own inheritance.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, “Amen.”Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people,And praise Him at the seat of the elders.
God has spoken in His holiness:“I will rejoice, I will portion out Shechem [as I divide Canaan among My people],And measure out the Valley of Succoth.
Your people will offer themselves willingly [to participate in Your battle] in the day of Your power; In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,Your young men are to You as the dew.
He has declared and made known to His people the power of His works,In giving them the heritage of the nations.
He has sent redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever;Holy and awesome is His name—[inspiring reverence and godly fear].
That He may seat them with princes,With the princes of His people.
When Israel came out of Egypt,The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
I will pay my vows to the Lord,Yes, in the presence of all His people.
I will pay my vows to the Lord,Yes, in the presence of all His people,
O praise the Lord, all you nations!Praise Him, all you people!
Samekh.I hate those who are double-minded,But I love and treasure Your law.
Woe to me, for I sojourn in Meshech, and I live among the tents of Kedar [among hostile people]!
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,So the Lord surrounds His peopleFrom this time forth and forever.
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land of the righteous,So that the righteous will not reach out their hands to do wrong.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are goodAnd to those who are upright in their hearts.
And He gave their land as a heritage,A heritage to Israel His people.
For the Lord will judge His peopleAnd He will have compassion on His servants [revealing His mercy].
To Him who led His people through the wilderness,For His lovingkindness endures forever;
My [steadfast] lovingkindness and my fortress,My high tower and my rescuer,My shield and He in whom I take refuge,Who subdues my people under me.
How blessed and favored are the people in such circumstance; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored] are the people whose God is the Lord!
He has lifted up a horn for His people [giving them strength, prosperity, dignity, and preeminence],Praise for all His godly ones; For the people of Israel, a people near to Him.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.
