'And, if thy right hand doth cause thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast from thee, for it is good to thee that one of thy members may perish, and not thy whole body be cast to gehenna.

But they have no root in themselves; they are short-lived. When pressure or persecution comes because of the word, they immediately stumble.

Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are His sisters not here with us?” And they were [deeply] offended by Him [and their disapproval blinded them to the fact that He was anointed by God as the Messiah].

Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away [and be ashamed and be afraid to be associated with Me as disciples], because it is written, ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

But Peter said to Him, “Even if they all fall away [and desert You, ashamed and afraid of being associated with You], yet I will not [do so]!”

He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man guide [another] blind man? Will they not both fall into a hole in the ground?

Blessed [joyful, spiritually favored] is he who does not take offense at Me.”

And Jesus having known in himself that his disciples are murmuring about this, said to them, 'Doth this stumble you?

“Aren’t there 12 hours in a day?” Jesus answered. “If anyone walks during the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

If anyone walks during the night, he does stumble, because the light is not in him.”

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be caused to stumble.

Why not? Because they did not pursue it on the basis of faith, but as if it were based on achievements. They stumbled over the stone that causes people to stumble.

As it is written:Look! I am putting a stone in Zion to stumble overand a rock to trip over,yet the one who believes on Himwill not be put to shame.

I say, then, Did they stumble that they might fall? let it not be! but by their fall the salvation is to the nations, to arouse them to jealousy;

Do not destroy God's action for the sake of food. Everything is clean, but it is wrong to make another person stumble because of what you eat.
