Joseph could no longer keep his composure in front of all his attendants, so he called out, “Send everyone away from me!” No one was with him when he revealed his identity to his brothers.

When the chief priests and officers saw Him, they shouted, “Crucify [Him]! Crucify [Him]!” Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him [no crime, no cause for an accusation].”

But when the officers arrived, they did not find them in the prison; and they came back and reported,

Then the captain went with the officers and brought them back, without hurting them (because they were afraid of the people, worried that they might be stoned).

When the angel who was speaking to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among his own personal attendants;
