'Bribe' in the Bible

“You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of the just.

For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe.

You shall not distort justice; you shall not be partial, and you shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

‘Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to strike down an innocent person.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

Here I am; bear witness against me before the Lord and His anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? I will restore it to you.”

Now then let the fear of the Lord be upon you; be very careful what you do, for the Lord our God will have no part in unrighteousness or partiality or the taking of a bribe.”

“Have I said, ‘Give me something,’Or, ‘Offer a bribe for me from your wealth,’

He does not put out his money at interest,Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.He who does these things will never be shaken.

A bribe is a charm in the sight of its owner;Wherever he turns, he prospers.

A wicked man receives a bribe from the bosomTo pervert the ways of justice.

A gift in secret subdues anger,And a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.

For oppression makes a wise man mad,And a bribe corrupts the heart.

Your rulers are rebelsAnd companions of thieves;Everyone loves a bribeAnd chases after rewards.They do not defend the orphan,Nor does the widow’s plea come before them.

Who justify the wicked for a bribe,And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!

He who walks righteously and speaks with sincerity,He who rejects unjust gainAnd shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe;He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshedAnd shuts his eyes from looking upon evil;

Men give gifts to all harlots, but you give your gifts to all your lovers to bribe them to come to you from every direction for your harlotries.

Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe,Her priests instruct for a priceAnd her prophets divine for money.Yet they lean on the Lord saying,“Is not the Lord in our midst?Calamity will not come upon us.”

Concerning evil, both hands do it well.The prince asks, also the judge, for a bribe,And a great man speaks the desire of his soul;So they weave it together.
