'Fortune' in the Bible

Then Leah said, “What good fortune!” and she named him Gad.

so that they may be offering incense to the God of heaven and may be praying for the good fortune of the king and his family.

The hungry eat up his harvest, and take it even from behind the thorns, and the thirsty swallow up their fortune.

"Have I ever said, 'Give me something, and from your fortune make gifts in my favor'?

We hoped for good fortune, but nothing good has come of it. We hoped for a time of relief, but instead we experience terror.

He who makes a fortune unjustlyis like a partridge that hatches eggs it didn’t lay.In the middle of his dayshis riches will abandon him,so in the end he will be a fool.

"For I, the Lord, say: 'I will surely bring on these people all the good fortune that I am hereby promising them. I will be just as sure to do that as I have been in bringing all this great disaster on them.

"Go and tell Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, 'The Lord God of Israel who rules over all says, "I will carry out against this city what I promised. It will mean disaster and not good fortune for it. When that disaster happens, you will be there to see it.
