But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you by a revelation, or by a knowledge, or by a prophecy, or by a doctrine?

For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom, and to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit,

Let

He that speaks with a tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies an assembly.

But a manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for a useful purpose.

Let us therefore pursue the things of peace and those which edify one another.

Do you again think that we are defending ourselves? We speak in Christ before God; all these things, beloved, are for your edification.

For this reason, being absent, I write these things, that I may not use sharpness when present, with the power which the Lord has given me for building up, and not for pulling down.
